Flayed shot testing on PTR

I started as venthyr and I knew the second they buffed that ability I’d go back and that’s exactly what I did

Busted out my ilvl 195 survival hunter on the PTR and gave it a whirl

For this testing I was using the ilvl 200 conduit and I’d advise to be using that at a minimum if you’re going to be trying this out at some point

Each cast I was doing was roughly around 4K base damage, the kill shot procs would hit for around 3.8k and crit 9-10k

The lowest damage id get out of a cast would be around 10k total with the highest capping out around 55k total damage

So it’s still an RNG hot mess but the ability is no doubt pretty fun to use

What’s more interesting to me is the scaling on the ability
The higher ilvl the conduit the higher the proc chance, the higher your haste the higher the proc chance
Scales from versa and mastery (for MM and survival)
And obviously scales fairly well with crit

I’m very interested to see how this ability will plan out in the long run with higher proc chances and higher crit rates

Good info. I just got my conquest weapon for SV and am wanting to switch to maining it instead of MM and Ven is looking juicy and would be a nice change of pace from dumb buggy kyrian arrow.

If I copied my character to Ptr is there an easy way they set up for us to switch covenants and test these changes?

If you havent been ven before you can just swap like normal

survival is still in a pretty rough state though

Like said above if you’ve never been venthyr you can just swap to it like on live but you’ll be at renown 1 again like live as well. I never get to test it out on ptr because every time I’m on theres 0 people at all. I wanna test it really bad the 25% damage increase with resets should be fat tbh.

It definitely seems like it’s going to be better for SV. Only issue is MM without Kyrian is pretty trash so it will kill that spec for me. Choices choices…

Yea kind of just depends. I’ve been playing pretty much only survival so its fine for me.

I did a few 2 minute runs on the PTR with my hunter (216 ilvl). I used the PvP target dummy in Org (not perfect but the best available) and stayed at range the entire time (to simulate PvP where SV is very often forced to play ranged) and flayed shot averages out at around 8-10% of total damage while kill shot procs were 16-20%. So overall Ven accounted for 24-30% of my total ranged damage which is huge.

Kyrian is still strong no doubt, but from a pure overall damage perspective Ven seems to the winner. Of course this lowers the potential for burst during a kyrian arrow>double bomb window but SV’s strength is more towards consistent dps anyway.

Yea I tried the ptr as well I only got 1 skirm to pop and I hit a dk for a 6.7k non crit. I also hit the dummy in org with no cds I’m fairly sure I hit 11k on it and if I remember correctly I hit 15-16k with cds up.

Cheers to you and the everyone else doing some testing for us!

Interested to see how it will effect our single target

I’ve been using it as a BM hunter. Have you done BM on the test realm?

Nah it doesn’t scale with mastery

I also don’t play BM so I didn’t bother, but it’ll do like 15% less damage

I tested Necro Chakrams under the same conditions as my Flayed Shot testing and it was ~20% of my overall damage.

They need to add something for BM since they dont get the mastery buff. Maybe a 5% haste buff to frenzy for each stack while the dot is active.

Update I was able to hit a enh a couple times with cds and I got a 11.5k kill shot on ptr.
