Pretty please? They are basically frosty’s pets, I just think it would be a really cool addition. Obviously not going to make-or-break the game, I just thought it would be worth posting. ^-^

Any frost mage worth their… ice?.. Doesn’t run a pet.
Lonely winter is too strong to give up.
Perhaps a better question, what can blizzard do to make them WORTH specing into. THEN we can ask… can we add them to cosmetic things?

Here’s an idea, axe lonely winter and buff water elemental and allow it to stay around. I mean honestly still annoyed they’re getting rid of the water elemental buddy but I’d maybe be alright if they allowed them to pop up from more than one ability like a talent gets added where as you’re fighting and flinging frost magic you get a chance to make water elementals spawn and attack your foes for a time like how demonology locks seem to fart imps. If anything though I hope the glyph to change it’s color carries over to it’s new spawn requirement as if they axe them and that icy veins or whatever spell spawns a default one I’ll be livid

I don’t see how Lonely Winter vs. Water Elemental is really a reason for them not adding it. Yeah one is more powerful objectively but that doesn’t really counter anything.
And what’s this about? Haven’t heard.

From what I understand, the permanent elemental is being removed, and overall it’s changing to a cooldown, presumably working like shamans’ elementals.

Tbh the gameplay of the pet doesn’t make it worth keeping around.
Auto attack + aoe freeze function? Not very appealing tbh. At least other pet classes, the pet is useful and has a functionality with rotation and such.
Unless they actually ingrain the pet into the spec, it just feels like dead weight regardless of a buff.

Apparently it hasn’t been a core part of frost mage for several expansions ever since Lonely Winter was made. Probably as far back as WC3.

Blizzard will add a puddle next to your character with a small memorial plaque. In patch 12.3.5. Trust me.

It is staying around.
Just as a cooldown. It’s being rolled into Icy Veins (at least I think that’s what it was rolled into) and spawns temporarily for a bit while your buff is up.
Which IMO is a better solution, because if given a choice, most mages will still opt to not go with a pet, because pet AI is horrible.
Whereas making them into a cooldown you already press is just extra damage for free and will make us see water elementals more often again.
Most frost mages prefer Lonely Winter, last time I check. It’s not even a thing about it being better for DPS - it’s just more comfortable to play. Yes, there’s some (like the OP) who like the elemental, but the majority prefer Lonely Winter.
Mage is not a pet class and should not be a pet class.
Lonely winter is 20% of mage total dps. You can’t make pet THIS STRONG while not even having any pet related abilities like warlock and hunter have. It would take full rework of a spec, which no one will like (out of frost mages that ACTUALLY play the game, and not RPers and casuals)

Why is no one creating ten topics a day asking for permanent shaman pet? Temprorary pets work fine.
