Alchemy: I have literally zero reason to get rank 3 on the flasks (maybe other things, but I just noticed flasks) because the ingredients required do not change at all!
Is this is bug? I looked on the bug report forum’s known issues and didn’t see it. Is this intended? I must assume it is as I don’t see anyone else posting about this here in the last two weeks.
I generally hold back on the “terrible design, Blizz!!” comments b/c I feel they are generally unproductive. However, what was the thinking here?
If this is intended, why should I ever waste two of my hard-earned flasks on getting another rank that does nothing? This is a literal question, not intended to be sarcastic or facetious.
If it’s a bug, I and many other alchemists would appreciate a swift fix, thank you!
Rank 3 potions and flasks normally include the ability to proc extras, just like the old mastery system. So it is worth it to get anywhere between 30% to 50% more potions and flasks.
However, depending on your server, the raw herbs will still sell for more than the flasks and potions (with the free procs), so you are usually better off learning rank 1 for the alchemy perk then buying what you need off of the AH.
Interesting. Thanks for the info! Is this telegraphed in-game in any way? Just curious because I want to know if I just completely missed it like an idiot.
It should be listed in-game, though I have never really paid attention to the tooltips on the patterns and use an add-on interface for my profession list.
It says on the third star I’m pretty sure.

For spreadsheet calculations I think this would be useful:
30% proc
rank 2: 1 Superior Battle Potion of Agility = 8 zin + 3 riv
rank 3: 1.3 Superior Battle Potion of Agility = 8 zin + 3 riv
which is basically the same as (mult everything by .769)
rank3: 1 Superior Battle Potion of Agility = 6.2 zin + 2.3 riv
50% proc
rank 2: 1 Superior Battle Potion of Agility = 8 zin + 3 riv
rank 3: 1.5 Superior Battle Potion of Agility = 8 zin + 3 riv
which is basically the same as (mult everything by .666)
rank3: 1 Superior Battle Potion of Agility = 5.3 zin + 2 riv
The agi pot was used in the example, but the same reasoning can be used for flasks as well. To determine the mult factor divide one by the left side value, for example
1.3 pot = 8 zin + 3 riv
mult factor = 1 / 1.3 = 0.769
when you proc a potion or flask craft and get extra a brief yellow flash will appear from your character, a sound effect will play (like a CHUNK sound) and the default chat log will show you received an extra item
eg. “you received flask of currents x 2”
