Flash freeze questions

I tried looking a bit on the alter time forum about this trait but I couldn’t find any info.

How’s the trait looking to you guys?

Stacking it worth it over archive for example? Does the increased icicle damage affect glacial spike or only launched icicles?

Does the proc chance stack additively or multiplicatively? I also hear splitting ice affects it somehow?

Im no pro tester so take this for what it is. (in regards to Glacial Spike)

I did two quick test. Both inside a Time Warp with DiD racial and IV active.

Non FF Avg Crit 76825k, Avg Normal 34653k

WIth FF Avg Crit 96930k, Avg Normal 37548k

Well that seems like pretty definitive evidence regarding boosting glacial spike damage.

Thanks for sharing👍🏻

I also wonder how the +5% FoF proc works with Glacial Spike talented.

Does it mean that you get 5% on every Glacial Spike cast (which only happens once in a while), as compared to sending out a constant stream of icicles when Glacial Spike isn’t talented?

This is so damn unclear…

It individually rolls 5% 5 seperate times at once so you can theoretically get 2 FOF procs from 1 glacial spike with Flash Freeze.

Is flashfreeze confirmed to be additive then, meaning that 5 stack is 25% or is it multiplicative where 5 stack icicle is 5.6xxxx%?

Flash freeze works exactly as it says outside of Glacial Spike. With Glacial Spike, casting Glacial Spike adds all the bonus damage properly, and then rolls 5% 5 times for Fingers of Frost. This means that you can in theory get 2 procs from one cast, and one will always be munched due to Shattering Glacial Spike with Flurry. Despite the munching, it is still higher DPS to hold Glacial Spike for Brain Freeze procs. Multiple traits stack the bonus Icicle damage, not the proc chance

Even 1x flashfreeze boosts the damage of GS so much it’s not even funny. Can’t imagine what 3x flashfreeze does.

On bloodmallet this trait is showing as 25-40% ahead of most other traits. I hope flashfreeze doesn’t get nerfed because frost is still sub-par DPS on all raid fights, and just got nerfed heavily in M+…

Anyone running Flash Freeze without GS and with Frozen Touch? Just curious how that performs …

I wish they would drop the cooldown on RoF in half so it could compete. I hate GS.

Neither TV or RoF are that far behind GS, at least in raids. Next “season” when we get the extra ring of traits, the gap could be even closer due to being able to have more access to traits like Whiteout.

Personally I’m loving the flash freeze Azurite trait. I have it on all three of my Azurite pieces and find that the bonuses do stack. Currently at item level 376, my glacial Spike regularly crits for over 100,000 damage. The highest I have seen it crit in a Mythic plus so far is 118,000.

You definitely want to keep 1 Archive trait if you are in Uldir, otherwise go for 3xFF if you have the items.

In raid, with 2xFF I’ve seen Spikes as high as 140k without gimmicks. I giggle every time.

Do you guys figure splitting ice pulls ahead with x3 flash freeze since the glacials are so juicy? Could jack it up even more w/ lonely winter too.

Lonely Winter does nothing for Glacial Spike, so no.

Extra frostbolt damage from the talent contributes to icicles which adds more on to glacial no?

I thought the damage of the icicles were static? When scrolling over the mastery stat in the character screen it says they do X,XXX damage per icicle. Does it change every time you cast a frostbolt/Flurry?? (confused) Hope you’re right though, not a huge fan of having a pet that dies all the time in pvp.

Haha I guess I should read what our mastery actually does because it must have changed this expac lol. I thought our mastery rating (%) originally dictated the amount of damage from each frostbolt or overall damage from flurry that contributed to the icicle it generates. So having 15% mastery, for example, means that 15% of frostbolt damage gets stored into the generated icicle. Along with increasing our frozen orb damage.

It used to work that way and honestly it was so much more interesting. If it still worked like that traits like Tunnel of Frost would be more viable.

Yeah, it was changed so that it’s no longer based on Frostbolt damage. It’s better this way, because it doesn’t double dip anymore (which was why it was OP in some fights in Legion before it got nerfed)
