Why does Flame Shock have a 4.5 second cooldown in pve? If Elemental shamans have to run the same tier set again and will continue to be one of the bottom specs, maybe a quality of life change is overdue?
Personally I think there needs to be a better way to spread flame shock besides a talent with a 1.5 minute cd. Ele AOE feels half baked. Chain lightning and quake are fun, but then the whole fire side of it is atrocious. I’m not tab targeting and flame shocking each thing individually every 4 seconds, Blizzard. I’m just not.
Surge of power doesn’t always apply Flame Shock to new targets when below the 6 mob target cap and Liquid Magma totem often misses applying flame shock when placed on any type of ledge. No CD flame shock would be a nice change for the fire side
The cooldown on Flame Shock matters? I thought I was just applying a dot?
I think they mean for DoT’ing multiple targets quickly.
Oh… I just hit Chain Lightning and hope for the best. But I clearly have no clue what I’m doing. LOL
That dot ticking is like 50% of Ele. It’s clunky af for aoe because you need it on as many things as possible. Every other class to my knowledge has some way to efficiently spread dots. Shaman is shafted, as usual since vanilla.
Well that sounds like some crappy tuning. ![]()
Lava Burst Overloads cause the flame shock dot to spread to 6 nearby enemies at full duration.
Keep the CD. That way you do have to reapply Flame Shock to one target, but it spreads the dot through overloads.
Tune the damage accordingly.
On my ele shaman Lava Burst makes up like 80%.
I am curious if people are sitting on their hands waiting for the CD rather than pushing buttons.
Does PW only hit 1 target? I figured PW was the way to spread FS and its dot.
I didn’t mean literal damage amount, I meant for the spec functioning mechanically. Where in game does it say LB overloads spread flame shock? I looked for like 10 minutes all over the place for a way to spread it because I figured I had to be missing something, there’s no way Blizzard just wanted us to all use a long cd talent to do it.
You use Earth Shock with the surge of power talent to spread flame shock to 3. Then target one without FS active and PW it. To bring the count to 3. Then Lava Burst. Then Earth Shock, then Flame Shock, Then Lava Burst, Lava Burst.
That is how you spread with the totem on CD. And with the tier, you drastically reduce your PW CD. So you spread your FS as much as you can when PW is coming off CD, so you can PW and LvB spam a few casts.
It doesnt. That is my suggestion to help spread the DoT around.
Elemental is just one of those specs where you try hard as hell to optimize it but still fall behind other specs, feels so bad.
What would make a TON of sense would be to have Chain Lightning SPREAD Flame Shock to every target hit. Then you can get rid of Liquid Magma Totem.
Then throw in changing the 4p to:
Lava Burst burns your target for 10% additional damage over 4 sec, and after consuming Primordial Wave, your casts of Lava Burst also hit up to 6 additional targets affected by your Flame Shock for 30% of normal damage for 10sec.
Then your AOE rotation becomes:
Flame Shock
Chain Lightning
Prim Wave
Lava Burst as much as possible off the principal target.
Prim Wave
Lava Burst
Repeat.
If Flame Shocks are running low on spread targets, chain lighting once off your main target and the mobs are dotted again.
It is sad how simple, and yet effective, that would be.
Laughs in Enhancement Shaman
When I get the flame spread right, dps is ok. Unfortunately I can’t get it right most of the time and my dps sucks.
Too complicated
I really hope for a redesign of the elemental spec next expansion
That would require them to do something regarding design of shaman, which is against tos or whatever. The removal of a 4.5 sec cooldown on the main ability, that is already capped at 6 targets, seems like a fair bare minimum request
Love the idea tho
I like the idea of just having a talent that makes chain lightning spread flame shock. It would get rid of the clunkiness, cut down on ability bloat, and shocker bring shaman in line with what other classes have been doing for the past decade.
