Why is flame shock still at 20 yard range? Every melee has a gap closer now.
Warriors have hook
Pallies have steed
Rogues have step
Ferals have FC
Yet we have to get within 20 yards…as a caster…to combo our highest damage ability? And all our other spells are 30 yards?

As soon as I see flame shock I dispel it immediately too.

Exactly. And I am now within 20 yards to cast it…ready to get eaten alive by melee.
I could understand early on when other classes didnt have gap closers the 20 yard range, but it doesnt make sense now and is just a crutch.
20 yards does feel low…
Tell ya what, they can make a relic that increases it to 40 yards, but you’ll have to deal 75% less magic damage from all sources.

…right. Great plan.
Tell you what, you can now bubble, but you do 0 damage while immune to everything.
Only if I can get a 76 mana cost spell that requires 5 dispels to remove, offers 30% pushback resistance and heals me. I’d also enjoy a 1min mini shield wall that gives me 75% of my mana back and is not dispellable.
20% DR is a mini shield wall? You realize that is basically plate, right? Which you already wear.
Where are you going with this? Pallies have been given literally everything they have asked for in SoD because they cried so much on the forums.
First of all, I play a holy paladin. We didn’t get a healing rune until p4 and it was promptly nerfed by 75% within a 2-3 weeks. You bring up armor but it really only helps vs two MAYBE three classes (rogue, warrior and a bit of hunter). Shamans have roughly 10% less physical reduction than paladins, so the gap is not that big. You also have some of the most absurd healing output of any class in a pvp setting and your rune based heals, of which there are many, out perform hpals and are cheaper to cast.
How can any shaman complain in SOD? It is insane that the SOD hero class believes their complaints are justifiable.
This is all coming from a pvp perspective, as the pve is such a joke min/maxing classes means nothing. My three year old niece could raid in sod.

I think this is the crux of the issue on these forums. Rather than spending time talking about ‘what’s in it for me’, why not discuss the issue at hand, on topic?
It’s a short range spell compared to others that most people hate because it’s attached to a guaranteed crit. Should it have further range, maybe just flame shock, but not the other shocks.
Ezpz.

This.
He just wants to whine about holy pallies.
Like I have mention before… everytime I had to run within 20yds to get a flame shock off in BS. I got focused and blown up.
But… But the big ol’ Shamans are OP… still.

why you worried bout 20yd flame shock vs melee? Your not gonna maintain 30yd vs a melee class

It might be time to realize that flame shock is not the problem. Neither is elemental shaman. It is Power Surge. Replace Power surge with something good that isn’t quite as epxlosive.
Elemental shaman is a real spec and had to live on the lower end of the spectrum because of the boogie man stories Alliance players like to tell each other. If we can start discussing about classes honestly we will quickly realize that elemtal shaman are worse than any other caster dps in PVE and ave no utility in a caster group.
Even in PVP they have one trick. 5% chance to get an instant lava burst after each flame shock. It was a menace in previous phases but it already fell off. A lava burst does about 1500 dmg in PVP. Average player in rank 10 gear has 7000 hp. It does not kill nor threaten anyone. And after the lava burst shamans jump in circles trying to stay alive for the next 5% chance to get an instant lava burst.
Elemental is a real spec for shamans as it has a dedicated talent tree for this play style (in contrary to shockadin). It deserves some attention.

You should check my post history… I had said since day one that PS proc rate was too low. Aint it like 20% in retail?
The whole point of ranged is to dps from a ranged vantage and avoid melee. Having to run closer to melee or a group just to cast a ranged spell negates that and usually ends up with me getting trucked by the group.
Earlier in the phases various melee did not have a gap closer and it made more sense to have a smaller range on flame shock to “balance it out”. However, now every melee has a gap closer so it doesnt make sense for the smaller range anymore.
It’s fine. Flame Shock does obscene damage. It’s the best AoE spell in the game and it’s instant cast. The low range is the only counterplay.
If you want to be safe, then sit back and press chain lightning.

Have you ever looked at details? Flame Shock is like ~50% of a shaman’s total damage in a dungeon or raid.
It’s also instant cast. No one can do anything to stop it. The only counter play is the range.
So you are comparing FS aoe damage…in a raid…to single target pvp?
Am I getting that right?
Or dispel.
Or Flame reflector.
Or bubble.
Or reflect.
Or silence.
