Fix tagging mobs

I will have shadow word pain up on a target AND wanding them and people with instant cast damage the same time my wand hits and it takes my mob EVEN though my dot was already up and damage was ticking.

If your dot/wand actually tick first, that mob is yours. Maybe it’s your ISP but you are not in fact dealing damage first.

Just open with Mind Blast and accept that you won’t get every single mob.

Sounds like your latency is a bit higher.

That’s the way tagging works, first damage inflicted not first spell to land. Same thing happens if you get resisted and the other person doesn’t.

In the game of trying to tag mobs vs 20,000 other people casting something isn’t going to compete against stuff like ranged auto attack, fire blast, frost shock, moonfire, etc.

Their wand speed might be faster lol

You have three options:
(1) Get over it
(2) Group up
(3) Go back to retail

Don’t know what to tell you, except that I’m surprised you’re still having trouble tagging stuff in level 30 zones.

Try playing a melee class if you think you have it bad…

If you think you have it bad play a melee like a rogue, paladin, or a warrior.

You mean warrior where they just have to hit ranged auto attack then charge?
I’ll give you paladin.

You have to do a certain amount of dmg for it to count. Otherwise you could go dot everything and steal taps.

unlike in retail, sw: p has no instant damage effect, you have to wait for the first tick of the dot, so that’s maybe the reason why

Having fun isn’t hard when you have a library card

It’s not broken. That’s how it works.

Also this. If your DoTs dont do much damage (Curse of Agony, im looking at you) you can even be 2-3 ticks in, and if someone with instant damage hits the mob for a deent chunk of damage, the tap will go to them.

Lead in with a DD spell. I lead in with Immolate.

Ranged auto attack isnt instant, and charge has less range then most casted abilities and cant be used in combat.

This is not new. I remember being annoyed about this way back in BC. If we want Classic as vanilla as possible, then unfortunately it will remain.

It takes time for the dot to do damage so you just gotta hope it ticks before someone else tags.

Warrior charge doesn’t do damage tho. Warrior can charge the mob first but as long as my fire blast (instant cast) goes off before the warriors first actual attack, the mob is mine.
