This madness must end.
What’s wrong with it.
It selects every an any target except the one in front of you that you want to target.
I only have issues with it in arenas, works perfectly fine up until a pet class shows up. >:( Pets shouldn’t be tabbable
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve went to sunfire the pack we are fighting and instead pulled the pack in the back of the room minding their own business.
Imagine you will, a younger version of me, 15.5 years ago, back in the before times known as Vanilla WoW. I was a mage then and we were fighting the Rend Gauntlet in UBRS. I tab to attack my next target, cast my fireball and watch in a slow motion horror as the fireball begins to arc up and into the face of a spectator. The entire “arena” comes running down the hallway to wipe the group.
TL:DR - Tab target has always been and will always be broken.
Wait, are you trying to tell me that you don’t want to target the neutral mob that’s out of range and behind a pillar?
I agree this happens to me alot.
50% of the time i tab to the target i want.
the other 50% it targets the next further person from me and does not pick up the person beating my face to a pulp.
Its finicky forsure.
I love when I press tab and it targets some unpulled trash pack in a m+ halfway across the map.
Or when I’m in pvp and it cycles through each individual army of the dead ghoul before the actual DK.
At least that one is in the same dungeon.
Just cruising along clearing wailing caverns… tab target… oh no, where’d that spell go…
Break yourselves upon my body!
7.2 patch notes
“Tab targeting has been updated to feel more consistent. While in combat, you will no longer be able to accidentally tab to a target that is out of combat with you, unless you are looking to a new target and your hostile enemies are behind you. Furthermore, you’re no longer able to tab to a target that neither your character nor your camera can see.”
LMAO!
Even haveing it cycle players only it’s still RNG if it selects the guy right in front of my face.
Yeah, pretty much everyone knew that was tauren feces within about 20 min of the patch.
If there was a way to toggle target cycling, this wouldn’t be an issue. Picking the enemy that is closest in an arc in front of the character should be the default behavior. It’s the behavior that maintains agency for the player.
An option to disable selecting them with tab targeting, AND the ability to not display their health bars would be amazing.
Does the player minions box in settings not disable the bars?
I’ll have to check that tonight. I thought I’d messed with a setting like that, and still had to deal with lots of bars, but they were less detailed.
Good times. Lol
As someone who played hunter in vanilla I became distrustful of tab targeting quickly.
It cycles through all targets within your range. So, if you had you’re closest target selected but somehow switched over to another (by an unlucky click, for instance) tab-targeting will cycle through every other available target until it gets back to the one closest to you.
It’s not perfect. Maybe you’ll have to manually select the guy trying to eat your face instead of relying on the tab key.
My issue is how it works just well enough to trick you into using it. Pull 10 packs in a row and tab through the active mobs efficiently; pull pack #11 and tab over to the mob in Timbuktu and pull 3 additional packs.
Rely on it?
As if it’s some kind of crutch?
And you’re suggesting that mouse clicking into a mess of particle effects and a mix of stacked enemies (and possibly other players), should be the go to method of selecting a target?
