Every time one casts pillar of frost this thing flies out for twenty yards. Yea, great for Eye of the Storm PVP but definitely IDIOTIC when trying to do mythics in places like Waycrest Manor or The MOTHERLODE! where you’re not trying to accidentally pull a million adds onto the party getting everyone killed. Waycrest Manor is a joke with this spell, it goes out of the room you’re fighting in down the hallway pulling in insta-wipe into the room. It shouldn’t have EVER been tied to pillar of frost to begin with (the main issue), should’ve been able to just drag the Frostwhelp’s Indignation spell to the action bar.
There’s nothing wrong with it’s current setup. If you’re pulling extra mobs, you just need to look ahead and see what is in the path - tying it to pillar is great in that you can synergize things that cooldown pillar with the big mastery boost. This is also something I love is that it clearly marks good vs bad frost DKs with it - you need to realize positioning and direction of your abilities when you use them. Bad DKs pull extra packs, the good ones don’t - it’s that simple.
You can point your character in other directions. Its bad players, not a bad trait.
Right… I want to have to think about this idiotic thing flying out 20 yards into mobs and line myself up perfectly not to do so each and every single time I cast pillar of frost when for the last 10 years this doesn’t happen when you cast pillar of frost. Tying this thing going off every time you hit pillar was an idiotic not well thought out idea. Its not bad players its bad programmers that didn’t think this through.
Right, because its hard to look in a certain direction and position yourself so the damage doesnt hit anything else. Its also an Azerite trait and not a function of Pillar itself. Its bad players. Its the same players that complain about standing in stuff and the healer didnt keep them alive that are complaining about the whelp.
Its not a hard mechanic, it goes where you are looking. If you think that looking in a certain direction involves a lot of work and thought what happens when real mechanics that matter hit?
I for one like the range on it. Can hit a lot of mobs if you want, or point it somewhere it won’t hit anything but the pack you’re fighting.
Don’t trait it if you’re that bad.
Yeah it can be annoying just started running it and only oops pulled once in m+. Wasnt a wipe though so np! Yes it requires a bit of spacial awareness but it shouldn’t be an issue if you are quasi competent. Now my guilds mt did a wall pull with his twi dev on pull before he could orient the mobs… that was funny and did cause a wipe lol.
Posts like this crack me up. As much moving as you do in the game these days, esp. m+ and turning your character upsets you. Then your big defense is you don’t want to have to think about positioning all while trying to say the devs aren’t thinking. This is just typical wow forum crying at its best! “Hey devs, i want you to think about me not having to think when i press this ability, k tks”
It took me a few dungs to adjust to the range and the Frost Whelps play, but after a few runs… it was part of my rotation to not only maximize my rotation by incoming mobs but also avoiding ones. It becomes simpler as you use it often. You’ll adjust, trust.
I’ve made mistakes with Frostwhelp’s Indignation, sure. But you learn from them and eventually become proficient with its use. You’ll come to appreciate the range on it when you get a bit more experienced using it (and knowing where adds lurk in dungeons).
On one hand I like abilities that make you think, on the other I don’t like AoE abilities that hit everything instead of just mobs you’re in combat with.
Are you really crying about basic positioning 101?
I know death knights are pegged as the easy class, but I
REALLY think DH would be perfect for you
l2p issue why even make a forum post when you’re barely able to control where you face during mythic plus?
Lol just don’t face nearby trash packs. Frostwhelp’s is fine since you can fairly easily play around the range.
This is such a powerful spell with 3 stacked that it should have some kind minimal strategic placement. Yes, you cannot blindly fire off. Safest bet is to literally aim it to where you just were as a group.
When I first started going FWI, I also had this issue and it was so bad that I stopped for a bit. But once I saw the amount of damage I could do with it aimed correctly, it just took some practice to use it with no issues.
