Please dont flush the good will of DF down the drain this quickly.
What good will of DF? Shiz was boring. At least SL had you wanting to know what happens next. You wanted to know what the trainwreck was barreling toward. DF was even more dangerous to the game; it earned a lot of apathy and TWW isn’t really doing much to reverse that. SL had the excuse of a global pandemic as to what went wrong. DF and TWW don’t.
SL did not have that excuse, SL was terrible because of decisions made by developers which they’ve already talked about sometime during Dragonflight at gamescom I think.
I never said it was a valid excuse, but that is the excuse that was given the most at that time.
That was also during the time of cubicle crawls and accusations of stealing breast milk. That was simply a bad time for the devs, and I think the game was heavily neglected back then.
Compared to what it brings in for their business, the game is heavily neglected now.
Come on bro that is insane to say. We get more class changes and tuning then we’ve ever gotten in the games history, we get more content than we’ve ever gotten in the games history with a new patch every 8 weeks that usually brings class changes, visual updates and more content. Even if its content thats similar to what we’ve seen in the past, its still stuff to do when in the past it would have just been nothing or a small 2 boss raid at most.
They are putting more effort into WoW than they ever have, I completely disagree with it being neglected. I do think they are struggling to balance with how often patches are coming out though, that is a big thing to consider, and the other thing to consider that they just posted about is the WoW code/engine. The reason we are seeing so many bugs and dc/system issues is because they are trying to update the code and engine without shutting down the game to do so, and that is causing some issues. Thats a good sign in terms of them updating the code/engine, shows they are looking towards the future. I cant really imagine how insane it must be to deal with code from like 20 years ago.
I disagree with quite a few things the devs do, namely their design of m+ and their slow response to 3s/shuffle mmr being deflated this season, but overall it is very obvious they are putting in more work than they ever have, thats pretty objective when you look at what we used to get compared to what we get in every patch now.
Keep in mind, if ele shaman was in a bad spot in 11.0, it would have stayed that way until 12.0 back in WoD and before. Thats how it was.
I will continue to believe that the class development team lacks the resources to do their job correctly rather than thinking that they are just terrabad at their jobs. The Shaman changes were clearly intended for launch, but they didn’t meet the deadline. They announced the rework less than 2 weeks after the expansion was released and before season 1 was available to give them and data about their performance and whether they were in need of a rework. They also didn’t touch the Shaman class prior to the launch other than the Splintered Elements nerf and making a couple talents one point instead of two.
Played Ele for a week, it is so broken now. You pop Ascendance and if you don’t drop anyone you wait 3min to do it again. All of our good consistent damage is gone, DRE is a joke with its proc rate, and the Elemental is nonexistent. Blizz really did a number on us for no reason.
Trying to do Zekvir ??
Level 20 Brann–prob too low? I can Ghost Wolf Thunderous Paws to remove snare/DOT, interrupt heal, and reliably kill egg spawn but I watch my friends do considerably faster damage. In one pull, Brann died five times. Are we still running Ascendance for ST or are there better alternatives? Could probably get him but will revisit it later
That i definitely agree with. I think what we’ve seen from beta cycle development shows that they have trouble getting to everything, even major things when it comes to classes. It could also just be very disorganized, sounded like it was when Ion described their class development process a while ago. I dont know much about this though so I could be very wrong, but yeah they do struggle to get to a lot of things with classes sometimes.
For example when a major dev quit during DF beta, a few of the healers he was working on just didn’t get any help until 10.0.5-10.1. Hpal was the last healer that still had an alpha tree and got changes in 10.0.7. That kind of stuff really throws them off too.
However I think a major mistake they made with ele was obliterating stormbringer before fixing the Ascendance bug. They reverted the overload nerfs, but they still went ahead with gutting Stormbringer pretty hard instead of waiting to see how Ele looked after the bug fix to Asc. If any bugs are present that really impact spec performance like that, no other tuning should be done until thats fixed and we see what numbers look like.
I just went Resto. I play healer in my key group and ele was my raid spec. With the 11.0.5 rework to busted damage then the massive single target nerfing into the ground I just couldn’t make it work anymore.
Unrelated but a big issue for me was the stat changes to Mastery/Haste. Hard to keep 2 sets of gear (one with Crit/Verse) and second with Mastery/Haste up to date on both specs. Crests and the crest cap, along with crafted gear costing 90 instead of 60 this season really were what torpedoed my ele dreams. The devs did the rest by nerfing Single Target into the ground and making it hit like a wet noodle outside of Ascendence.
The elemental changes have been a full blown cluster$&#. There is literally no excusing it.
Sure I’m not excusing it, that isn’t what I said at all. I agree that they handled eles overperformance really poorly. One bad decision they made was nerfing anything before fixing the Ascendance bug, another one was nerfing stormbringer so insanely hard, and another was nerfing the actual gameplay of stormbringer by nerfing arc discharge charges from 2 to 1, gameplay loop feels worse because of it which was an obvious outcome.
I have always been afraid to main shaman because the devs seem to hit ele hard whenever it does too well, while other specs either stay very good or get more calculated nerfs so they don’t get overnerfed. This is just another example of ele getting absolutely obliterated in pve almost instantly, and the nerfs were not careful especially considering they came on top of a bug fix that hit eles ST by 9%.
Its a shame because the pve gameplay was super fun. I think they should just revert a couple of the stormbringer nerfs especially arc discharge, and then buff eles ST.
