Fistweaver legendary seems conflicting between raiding and mythic+

For the fistweaving legendary (and speccing into fistweaving abilities to go with it), it seems counter intuitive that to start fistweaving, I need to cast a very expensive Essence Font especially considering the fistweaving heals are generally pretty small where the amount adds up over time.

While at least in my experience this equates to good mana efficiency and HPS in exchange for less bursty heals in raids (though not nearly as good as the other regular mistweaver legendary I think), in Mythic+ I’m really having trouble deciding when to begin fistweaving (especially with Grievous).

On the one hand, the fistweaving healing without Chi-Ji activated is so small and passive that it seems like I would want to be starting fist healing each light to medium damage phase with an essence font to trigger it, and start timing rising sun kicking and blackout kicks for quick small heals in between passing around renewing mists.

On the other hand, this turns essence font into a huge mana waste and becomes a MASSIVE overheal over time. It’s a big, big waste. So maybe it’s better to wait until people are getting around 50-60% HP before I start transitioning into essence font -> fisting, but then in mythic+ at that point it’s really time for triaging, which means I’m not going to be fistweaving at all and instead spamming Vivify everywhere while the Ancient Teachings buff slowly goes unused.

Do you see the weird conflict here especially in Mythic+? Why do I need to start fistweaving with the legendary with an Essence Font of all abilities?

Is it that this legendary is designed solely for raiding? It’s a very strange design. I love the idea of planning punches and kicks to heal, but man I really hate triggering it with an Essence Font. That just seems so stupid. Even in raid it doesn’t feel good. It feels janky, but particularly janky in Mythic+.

I’m still making it work, and very well too (well maybe not so great with all the downtime needing to drink between pulls in mythic+). But it just feels awkward and like I’ve got two conflicting things going on in my head where it’s like “ah I should do this, but ah I’m wasting so much mana and overhealing just to trigger punching healing that isn’t overhealed.”

It’s so weird. I want to keep using this but I don’t think using Essence Font as the fistweaving trigger is the way to go. There has to be a better way to do it, but I haven’t looked at discussion on this nor was I part of the beta, and I only just started playing Monk this expansion so I feel like any suggestions I have right now might be misguided.

yeah, the anti-synergy kick that bliz is on just makes specs that feel worse to play

also the fistweaving random overheal on a dps at +90%, but ignoring the tank at 30% is bs too

Yeah someone else mentioned that in another thread. It feels goofy for it to not at least prioritize a low health target in a party.

In a raid they could have it prioritize a lower health target depending on a range factor (whoever is lowest + closest depending on a weight, probably favoring close range more so it’s not just an auto quick save on single targets).

Or even have it split its healing between multiple low health targets if they’re all low. I don’t know, anything better than this random choice between anyone less than 99% HP lol.

You will not oom even when you cast essence font on cooldown while fist weaving.

The problem with fist weaving is it doesn’t benefit from our mastery, the range is 20 yards and the heal isn’t smart.

If you are exclusively fistweaving, sure - but many situations can force you out of it… see spiteful
