Fishing Rack

Spent some gold buying a few and using at camps. I can’t see any buff different than fishing bowl. Tested fishing with lure after and no difference. You can right click on the rack, but that doesn’t seem to do anything.

Anyone gotten this to work and decerned what it actually does and for how long?

Hi! Yes I have been using the fishing rack in a few different zones and an still trying out more! Right now I have had the best luck using the fishing rack get the buff and attaching a lure to my pole I fish up a lot of bloated fish that can be opened. Alot of the time they have moss agate or lesser moonstones in them but quite a few had gear inside AND GOOD GEAR! I got a ton of rings a few weapons and a helmet so far! My best best luck has been in desolace

After further research it to this fishing rack I think I have it figured out. You can get the bloated fish from all areas and they will match the most common fish of the zone but will be a green item and bloated. However, fishing in zones at or close to your level will give MORE bloated fish. I am on my way to barrens next to see what the outcome is there being at my level but I have gone fishing in feralas, stranglethorn, stonetalon, and desolace so far.

This item seems to be broken, I have fished for 3 hours with the buff active and have caught 0 bloated fish. I tried fishing in BB, Desolace, The Loch, and Wetlands. Hope it’s fixed for release, this is a neat idea for those of us that like to fish

I’m having an issue where I don’t even get the Buff and when I use the Fisk Rack it says “There is no loot.” I’m Fishing 160.

using the rack gives you a possible lure. Doesn’t give you the buff. I had similar issue. I have a theory that if you have Kings buff it will block it. I also had success walking a distance away from the rack then coming back. You don’t need to sit and wait for buff. It should apply by being near it nearly right away.

I know. I didn’t have any other buffs. I tried the walking away thing and same result. Do you all think there is a level req that isn’t listed beyond just the 140 to learn/place it?

Ok, so I know there is issue with private messages and invites taking several minutes. I saw someone complainign about not getting campire buff. maybe that is related. Just really delayed.

Nah, this was before today that I was having this issue, been going on for a week or more now. I’m getting campfire buffs just fine, even today. Only one I’m not getting is the one from my own Fishing Rack.

How do you even get the fishing rack?

the blueprint comes from dungeons. bfd perhaps? but I buy mine from ah.

What level were you all at in Fishing when you began using the Rack? I’m curious if me being at 165 is preventing me from getting the Rack Buff, even though it doesn’t state that’s a requirement for it?

Thanks again @ Savagenoth. I bought a pattern off the AH. Was able to gain the buff and apply it, then fished for an hr. My results are below.

TLDR : This may not work on ocean fish. Minimal rewards.

Actual Rack Interaction

I created and placed my own fishing rack next to a campfire i also created. Upon placing the rack, I gained the uncommon fishing buff, and was able to loot the rack to get two fishing lures (+50). Sitting by the fire gave me the kings buff, similar to the fish bowl. So it does look like you need to place the rack to gain the fishing benefits.

I was also 220 fishing when I placed the rack.

Fishing

I went to dustwallow marsh. I followed the road briefly out of Theramore to the first inland water pond (not the ocean or bay * important *). The pond was a mix of about 65%/35% mithril trout to catfish. I spent the first 20 minutes here.

First 20 minutes - pond fishing

The first 10 minutes i did not catch a single bloated fish. My fishing did level up to 225 in this process. I don’t think not being max fishing stopped me from catching a bloated fish, as the overall rate of catching a bloated fish was very low, but worth calling out.

I did eventually catch 3 bloated mithril trout fish here, around the 13-18 minute mark. These 3 fish dropped a shadow gem, a moss agate, and a lesser moonstone, respectively. No gear dropped.

2nd 20 minutes - Bay Fishing

After 20 minutes i moved to the inner bay of dustwallow. I spent 20 minutes catching fish here, and caught ZERO bloated fish of any kind, though i caught numerous other normal fish (oily blackmouth, yellow duckbill, firesnapper, rockscale cod). After 20 minutes of nothing, i moved back to my original inland pond, where i immediately caught another bloated mithril trout ( with a moss agate), and stayed there another 10 minutes. I only caught one bloated trout in this time.

Last 10 - Limited Pool and Ocean Testing

With 10 minute remaining, i went to the northern coast line to try and find a fishing pool. I did find one oil pool with zero bloated results. Elite sharks and murloc limited my ability to truly test further here, though i caught zero bloated with the time i had.

Results

Over all - 4 bloated mithril trout with some small gems. 50 normal mithril trout. 15 rockscale cod, 20 firesnappers, 20 oily blacks, and 10 yellows.

I am going to try river and pond fishing later in another zone, and see if there is an impact. My initial testing showed ocean fishing may not be worth doing. however, the bloated fish themselves had minimal rewards.

Did one hour of fishing (duration of the buff). Got one “Message in the Bottle” with a Scroll of Protection in it, from ocean fishing. And got one bloated fish in river fishing. Pretty low drop rates overall. Maybe just bad luck RNG, but still feels a bit not worth it.

It’s very possible that higher level fish give better rewards, but I’d love to see these basically become the loots you can get from pool treasure chests

In my testing I found theramore area (coast on way to ratchet) very poor results for bloated. This is at lvl 20 and max fishing max lure. Redridge worked well, but only the dock on the far side of the bridge (near murlocks). I tried Redridge directly across from the inn and didn’t see anything. I have a theory that you get better results when in zones appropriate for your level.

I have also been testing the luremaster legacy perk. Another post with that. For luremaster… I saw no difference at all. No extra fish ever, no matter where I fished. I do not think it works.

From what I have gathered the fishing rack buff only works if:

1- Your base fishing skill (regardless of lures and stuff) is high enough for the zone. To those that didn’t know in classic each zone has a fishing level range. Some are 1-75, some 75-150, 150-225, 225-300, and a few are even higher.

2- It only works in open water. I don’t think you’re gonna get any bloated fish from pools.

For what it is worth I have gotten bloated fish from pools. Due to buff or not I am not sure. I don’t think the bloated fish from pools were the same fish as the pool. Whimsyfish for example.

Spent an hour fishing in Feralas, at the lake just below the Horde town. Much better results.

Ended up catching 11 bloated fish. All bloated fish are the minimum fish type of the area (in this case raw redgill).

Rewards -

1x Citrine

4x Star Ruby

3x Aquamarine

2 Rings - Both level 40+

1 Necklace - Level 39

Going to try one more test in Azshara after I get some higher level fishing gear. With the lure, food, and big iron fish pole, I can get to 357 fishing. Curious what might drop.
