there is room in the book for more than just the pole slot.
there are four items we’ve had for many an expansion. while i see not having the spear as a spot, why not the other three?
- Sharpened Tuskarr Spear
- Nat’s Drinking Hat
- Boots of the Bay
- (plus) Fishing Gloves
just curious blue, what’s up here? i noticed a new fishing hat. why not add at least one spot for that?

How has this obvious bug not been corrected yet???
Every single other profession has 3 equipment slots, but while fishing has a 4th piece of equipment with the Tuskarr spear, it only has 1 slot to put gear into on the journal. What is this nonsense, Blizzard?! I wouldn’t even mind still having to carry the spear around, since it’s a niche item for just the DF xpack, but fishing hats and boots have been in the game for a long time now, so for them not to have been included in the profession gear update seems like a blatant oversight.
Whining about bag space aside, it really would be a huge QoL upgrade for anglers to not have to worry about getting locked wearing our fishing hat and/or boots in combat if we forget to swap back to regular gear first. Since the helm is a tier slot, assuming it’s one you’re using, then you’re not just missing a whole item’s worth of stats, you’re also losing your set bonus, which can put you at a major disadvantage.
I’m not saying to just remove the combat lock from those slots completely, but currently, you can equip armor into an empty slot while in combat, so if you were to designate all profession equipment as “non-combat equipment” and then have the game treat non-combat equipment as an empty slot while in combat, that would give players the opportunity to realize why they’re hitting like a wet noodle/getting rekt and put their proper gear on quickly without first having to get out of combat (a potentially slow and/or deadly prospect, depending on the situation, of course). The same type of solution might also work for Stormwind/Orgrimmar TP cloaks, Dalaran/Boralus/Dazar’alor/Brawler’s Guild TP rings, the Timeless Isle TP trinket, etc.
