You play a game for years and you think you know as much about it as possible. I had no clue that fishing skill was used as your fishing pole’s weapon skill.
Who knew? I didn’t!
EDIT: Btw, esfand has a great youtube video showing this.
Anything that you didn’t know but are finding out because of Classic?

Whacking someone with a fishing pole doesn’t skill you up though.

When I used Execute at max rage on someone and then learned it didn’t scale with AP.
Edit: I think I read this post wrong. =x

True, but what other “weapon” has a +100 skill buff item you can add to it?

On the topic of fishing poles, can anyone confirm that the +20 pole in Desolace is available atm? I’ve spent about two hours opening crates, with no luck. I’m currently stuck with the +5 pole.
And on fishing in general, it’s great, but seems too good. I would guess at least 20% chance to fish chests from regular pools (not wreckage), which has made mats a joke. I already have more than enough mageweave to level past it, and am getting far along in my runecloth stock.
I always thought that one was from a quest from grabbing Crawdads for a troll dude.
There is also the quest available at level 45 for a +25 fishing pole. It’s from a troll near a Horde FP in Alterac Mountains. I can’t remember the name of the area at the moment though, sorry.
That’s a failure of game design right there.

Alas, all the great quest given poles are Horde only.
Alliance get the Blump Family Fishing pole…
Sorry, I am not familiar with Alliance quests and rewards, as I only play Horde.
You’d think there would be faction equivalent items to better balance the game. I guess I assumed incorrectly.
Well Horde have Fishermon and Alliance don’t so…

I bet Griftah was involved…
You could get the one in desolace as alliance for a while. It changed in cata.
He recognizes the inherent fishermon in us.
In retail I still would fish with a pole. Old habits die hard I guess.
I remember as a warrior when someone tried to gank me and I used my heroic fishing pole to defend myself.
