Items that temporarily enchant your fishing pole (worm supreme, etc) used to work by right clicking them from inventory. Now they turn the cursor into the ‘enchant’ glove and you have to open the fishing journal and click the fishing pole directly. Given the tiny duration of most fishing buffs, this is too fiddly, especially when trying to win the fishing contest.

This isn’t a going to fix how silly this is, but I imagine similar macros to /use (buff item name here) with /use 16 if you’ve got the rod equipped.

The problem is because the fishing pole now goes in the “Fishing Equipment” slot in your fishing journal and it no longer swapped with your weapon.
This is a great idea because you can get the benefits of the Legion fishing pole (swim speed, water walking, etc.) without having to swap gear, but the side-effect is the problem I described. It’s fiddly and clunky.
I just put the pole from my fishing journal on an extra small hot bar bar that’s not part of my button affiliations. Ez fix
Someone elsewhere noted that the “profession equipment” slot for the fishing pole is slot 28, so the earlier post about macros to apply the buff can be reworked to address the correct slot and should solve that problem, if macros are how you prefer to do this.
Dragging the fishing pole slot out onto an action button is genius, though.
