I am beyond frustrated.
I am attempting to level my Cooking profession to 285 so that I can get the quest in Silithus to make Smoked Desert Dumplings. I am currently at 275.
I used to get to this level using the Juicy Bear Burger recipe sold by Malygen in the Talonbranch Glade in Felwood. I have visited him the last three days and his supply of this recipe isn’t being updated (or other players are buying them before I can get to them but I was there at 4 am this morning as the server reset so I don’t know how that could happen). The recipe is not being sold by anyone on the AH.
The only other recipes I can find that will level me the last 10 increments are those involving fish. So, I’ve leveled my Fishing skill from 1 - 300. Now I find out that the only way I can catch the fish needed to get me from 275 to 285 require that my Fishing skill is 350.
I go to the Zangarmarsh to try to level past 300 and it begins at Cataclysm level 1. So how do I level past 300 to get to 350 to catch the fish these recipes require so that I can level to 285 to get the quest?
And why does this have to be so convoluted? I’m hours into this and I’m about ready to uninstall.
I’m in a rush here so I don’t have time to research a full reply for you, but I think you’re looking at an outdated guide. Classic (vanilla) fishing only goes to 300 now. If you could tell us which fish you need maybe we could find more current information?

I am trying to catch Mightfish and I spent about an hour in Azhara (sp?) fishing there and never caught anything remotely close to this level. Just low-level fish and a bunch of vendor trash. (This is where I leveled to 300.)

I think you were looking at guide(s) for Classic WoW, which is a whole different kettle of fish (sorry) than vanilla WoW. Hope this works for you.

Would the Stormwind fishing cooking daily help? That will bump you one or two points a day.
Also we are close to the Thanksgiving Holiday. Which has quests that will allow you to power level cooking.
I am sorry to be so vague. I am leveling through the same ranges on a couple of characters right now. I recall fishing up some of the needed fish in Feralas. Nightfin, and ??? can’t remember.
The Mightfish is an open ocean catch. I was able to catch a half dozen. It took awhile with a char that has fishing at about 260 or so with Seth’s Graphite pole from Outlands.
Edit to strike fishing in the first para and put cooking in its place.

I did wind up leveling, thanks to the guide that was posted above by Sherah. (Thanks, Sherah!) I wound up going to the Tainted Forest in the Blasted Lands and caught some Salmon, leveling up to 300.
