Fishing is outdated

Legion fishing was 10/10.

Go back and see what they did with fishing in Legion. It was fun, but I don’t need that every expansion, and I think it’s the maximum amount of love that fishing is going to receive in any expansion.

I really wish people would stop trying to fix what isn’t broken.

Fishing is nice, simple, restful activity. Let’s just leave it that way.

The whole engine needs a rework. With survival games nowadays, WoWs engine is obsolete.

Ummm… WoW isn’t a survival game.

I would settle for food requiring fewer fish to make.

Yeah it’s a job simulator…possibly modern day survival in right light

Just to clarify, you are satisfied with fishing in Shadowlands?

I don’t have Shadowlands.

But, given the OP used the word ‘outdated’, clearly she is referring to the longstanding basics of the activity as a whole, not just in Shadowlands.

However, if your issue is how bare bones the fishing objectives are in Shadowlands, I agree. But I still don’t want to see fishing ‘fixed’ as every time Blizzard ‘fixes’ an activity they remove all the fun and charm and flavor (see: AH, base game/questing, character creation screen) and fishing is fine just the way it is, bare bones or not.

I would disagree since they made it way more interesting in Legion with the Artifact fishing pole, filling out the trees with it, having it catch more fish/other bonuses with the filled out trees, and then of course the Fisher Friends.

It would seem dumb to have a “New Artifact Fishing Pole” every expansion but, like I said in a post above, there is a lot of empty space on it (to add a “tree” from each expansion.)

the fishing in lost ark is the exact same tho, hell it’s arguably simpler since you can click anywhere to reel your fish in.

I wouldn’t like to see a replacement of fishing. To some people it’s a perfectly fine side activity.

However I’d be totally in for an additional fishing minigame. Let’s call it “deep sea fishing”. It’ll be more complex and engaging and you’ll catch bigger fishes.

Understandable. I agree more a complex fishing mini game does not equal a better fishing game and that relaxation not excitement or challenge is the essential theme of day-to-day fishing. And I am more focused on the surrounding gameplay of events, pools, incentives, etc than the cast-and-catch itself.

That said, now that I’ve seen examples of minigames that can still be still trivial (give or take a short learning curve) but which provide a design space for buffs and the ability to include the occasional more challenging fish to reel in, I have also become more open-minded about a little more complexity in the act of catching a fish itself.

But, even though I’m lamenting stagnation, I think your skepticism/worry about making it less relaxing is completely valid. There is pretty of room for making the world more interesting for fishing without touching the core mechanic. And all this dreaming politely assuming that there is enough of an audience left if WoW who still feel fishing is one of these little activities that makes MMO worlds feel more alive. Fishing is not the sort of topic devs talk about much in Q&As, so I really have no idea what data and mindsets are moulding their decisions on how much attention to give secondary professions.

Imho, fishing can be fun, relaxing or even a sport ,the first two is where most folks would like it, the last just for the thrills.

This an example ,if you can find the enjoyment ,

Maybe the problems with the game are the crafting systems. Recipes right now are to farming intensive.

In Shadowlands Some recipes call for too much fish. Single good buff recipes call for 6 fish to one craft and you get only 3 meals.
The top raid feast we have needs 45!!! Fish for a single use.

And to counter the obnoxious recipes we now have command table fishing rewards as an over correction to bad crafting designs. Having command table rewards cheapens peoples fishing efforts, but are necessary to the rediculous recipe designs.

I would like to think MoP Noodle Carts we’re the height of fishing/crafting synergy in the game. 25 fish needed (plus halfhill farm produce) and you got 5 noodle carts(raid feasts)

Oh, this would be a wonder.

Toss the dynamite in the water. A few seconds later, fish fly through the air to land on the shore. You have run around and click on the glittering fish to loot them. Give it a 1m cooldown.

And archeology.

And this is from a perspective of someone who didn’t play the expansion.

The other professions were a PITA after the fact. Tying professions to content just doesn’t age well. Nothing worse than having to grind out 20-30 raids to get mats or level up some crafting station, which seems like it was more BfA and cataclysm thing. Legion was gawd awful linear quest chains.

they want us to want to play on the ground, then motivate me.
Reskin some of the older more popular mounts and yaeh…have world trash have a chance to drop it.
People will live on the ground at that rate.

The only time I ever worried about fishing was to get the Strider water walking mount and look how that turned out. I guess if you’re a hardcore raider it makes sense for the food, but it is so confined to that, with an uninspiring method, it’s just not worth the time.

Fishing was outdated in 2004 and was never fun. It doubly sucks in SL because it takes 1000 fish to make 1 hedonism. 10 Silvergill pike is always the one I’m short on and that’s with multiple Night Fae who get free fish.
