Fishing is outdated

The lurker below? I think that is the one you are talking about. Zul’grub (think that is how you spell it) had another one. You needed to go thru a couple of steps to be able summon it but they involved fishing.

Cool. But I like fried fish. So I hope the fisherfolk keep fishing.

No you are making me hungry and I know there is no where I can get fish and chips at 8 am…

Cooked fishes that you catch at later levels should heal you by a lot to make them useful if you don’t have a mage with free food or a lot of healing in your kit (unlikely). I mean, in runescape that’s what they do and can make a lot of money fishing because they’re actually valuable.

Not too keen on actually making the fishing more in depth though. I like just casting the line and waiting personally.

Everytime I think about what wow could do is add more activities so it would be fun to see something similar to what runescape has done with Fishing Trawler and Fish Flingers.
I guess wow has one though already with Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza. Haven’t even tried that one yet is it any good?

Rift had the perfect fishing mechanics for me. Just a little bit more in depth than WoW but not so much it’s not relaxing.

Agreed. Its right up there with pet battles and archeology.

My favorite part of FFXIV is fishing.
To catch the over 1,00 types of fish you use bait, lures and even a technique called mooching which uses a smaller fish you just caught as bait to catch a larger fish.
It even has ocean fishing. These are 24-player instances you can queue into that take you through Eorzea’s oceans on a big boat. It is like raid for fishing!
So many of these great ideas could be incorporated into WoW!

Fishing in Warlords and Legion were good. You had quests, lunkers, artifact fishing rod, etc…

All of that was stripped in BFA and Shadowlands.

The catch mechanic could change a little as well but not too drastically. I would like fishing skill to have meaning again as well.

I’ve tried the first stage of fishing in Lost Ark and it’s the same concept, you only see the fish come and nibble. But you click when the bobber goes down. Exact same.

You know, I don’t think I would hate it?
Like, it would probably get a bit boring rather quickly if they didn’t update the current fishing and archeology systems to make them more interesting, but damn it would be better than bfa or sl that’s for sure.

The only thing I liked about New World was the fishing.

I miss forming raid groups for fishing. So chill and relaxing to be with fellow anglers. :fishing_pole_and_fish:

How did they make fishing better?

Is it solely what you can drag out of the water? Or is the actual “fishing” part any better?

I tried fishing in Vanilla, my friends liked it. But they, in reality, what they were doing is not fishing, they were drinking. Fishing was just something to pass the time between sips of Jack Daniels. “No wonder this isn’t as interesting to me.”

I even tried fishing for coins in Dalaran during Wrath with a fishing bot. Honestly, that was worse.

I never really leveled fishing until WoD, when we have the fishing shack dailies. This worked for me, because I could just run out and do the daily. Gets you out the the Garrison, out in the to the world, fish up 20 or whatever fish. Simple, rather than just a black hole of time.

I actually fished in BfA as well. I didn’t need 700000 points of ancient WoW fishing in BfA, so it was simple to level to 75 (or whatever), and I got steady fish for my minimal cooking needs. But, it’s still…fishing.

Currently, my favorite fishing thing is the compressed ocean toy. I ALMOST might try to get that. I just love the idea of it. Save that its…fishing.

So, how do these other games make fishing “better”?

Sadly, I’d say leave fishing alone.

The problem, I don’t like making a mistake a second time… once is just being human, twice is just stupidity.

The issue is keeping the game new player friendly… new player doesn’t want to fish in old expansions, to get Nat Pagle rep, so we all lost our Azure Striders.

My hunter has all the fishing skills, hats, rafts, rep… unused fishing line buffs still in his bank bags… but these days, even the fishing poles have become borrowed powers…

Nah, just leave it simple, no fishing pole required…

I’d like a fun rhythm minigame. Kind of bored of clicking and getting fish.

Sentences you never thought you’d see on one of your favorite video game’s forums, but find yourself VIOLENTLY AGREEING WITH.

Nice thing is you don’t even have to fish anymore.

The command table gives you bags of fish.

I’d rather run nails on my arms than do any fishing in Stardew Valley. The mod that makes fishing less of a pita is one of the most popular in that game for a reason.

I like it when games have little minigames for fishing. But BDO did a good thing and let you do the minigame or just let it do its thing automatically.

So if WoW were ever to change fishing mechanically (as opposed to just rewards or whatever), I think that’s something they’d need to do. The current method as a baseline, so the people who do it to relax won’t be negatively impacted. Then whatever new mechanics as a slightly more efficient method.

Maybe fishing without a rod uses the current method and with a rod uses any potential new mechanics.

Anyway, that’s all. I don’t really have any suggestions for how to change fishing, just dropping in to say I like fishing minigames and that I don’t think anything should change in a way that completely eliminates the current simplistic mechanics.
