The changes are because the anticheat doesnt work, so botting had to be discouraged more.
I agree that pool fishing is more engaging. However, the fish filet bottleneck on cooking would warrant open water fishing just for filets. Beef is 2g, a fish fillet is 35g
Your fishing journal will list the recommended fishing level for open water fishing in each zone.
I think it is:
Isle of Dorn: 75
Ringing Deeps: 150
Hallowfall: 225
Azj-Kahet: 300+
Fishing in open water (especially in later zones, like Ahj-Kahet) has a much higher chance to net trash than in previous expansions.
Fishing maxes out at 300, though another 100 can be earned through the Algari Weaverline (though it takes time to find all the threads necessary to “level up” to that point). The Algari Weaverline can also grant +100 perception over time (further increasing the chances to get useful things).
I actually really like the design. Fishing in open waters doesn’t guarantee something useful on every cast, but you can still get stuff like darkmoon cards.
Could it be that nerfing fishing to only get trash outside a few pools is a way to combat bot fishing? Botters would be found out fast at one of those pools.
I agree with you - I find fishing to be very frustrating at the moment, and needlessly complicated - with joy-sucking features. I enjoyed fishing to relax before - now I find it to be another annoying profession in the game. I don’t like spending time to get my fishing skill up only to find it’s not good enough. Instead of ruining fishing ostensibly to rid the world of fishing bots - maybe actually get rid of the fishing bots instead. They make billions a year - I’m sure they can figure it out.
I noticed that too. You only get fish from pools. They are making things harder than they need to be. Same with needing crafting tables to craft.
That is the crux of it. Same as leveling alchemy, getting to the recipes that you want make you burn a lot of materials. Once you have the recipe that you want, the amount of effort drops way down.
But you only get 1 fish from a school now…
Unless I’m just the unluckiest person on the planet.
I saw this a lot on this comment thread, do we know that is the motive for this fishing design? We are in week two of the expansion and my level is capped and I can make a top-end pole as soon as I get 15 more acuity. I might start up a tailor just to make my own weaversthread too. And then I’m done for the expansion. My cooking is “this close” to being done and I’ll have feasts for my raid team next week.
Yeah, irl fishing, I always thought when I threw one back it would tell all the others to run away.
Well, and in TWW we are supposed to catch darkmoon cards there as inscriptionists. I can assure you I will never be fishing again irl if I catch a tarot card – talk about an eerie omen.
HAHAHAH LOLOLOL! Love it
It’s that way past 275, if you want fish… fish in pools, if you want to up your skill points, don’t move.
It truly sucked this time.
Update:
I am now able to fish in open water in Kahet with virtually no trash. (like 1 trash in 50 casts ish).
But took work. I maxed out 300 fishing
Weaverline maxed (100 in Seeker and Angler)
Max Fishing Rod
Nat’s Drinking Hat + the lure use on the pole)
Boots of the Bay
Ghoulfish Delight
Rough, but at least now I can sit and AFK fish. Not sure if it is worth it, getting nothing but minnows.
You’re unlucky. I mostly get 3, but have gotten up to 5 from a school.
Yeah I am not finding fishing fun nor relaxing this time around.
fishing was the only profession you could profit off of without moving for hours on end, so of course they had to make it nearly impossible to catch fish
