Ok I have 6 toons with max fishing skill. What I think I’ve learned is that when I do the Derby, if on my first toon, I find all the fish available, getting the extra Derby Marks for each of the fish, then turn in my completed Derby quest. It seems that every toon after the first one completes the Derby on the first fish I catch, even if not in the selected ones for that Derby. It doesn’t allow me to get any more Marks for different fish avaiable. So does that mean it’s better to not turn in the completed quest? Will I get the extra Marks by keeping the quest open? Turn in after I’m done fishing on all the other toons?
you get marks on your alts only if they are from fish you didn’t catch on your main. So each week you can only catch 20 some odd fish for marks per account and then everything else comes from completing the quest.
I never tried not turning in the quest on my first character because it is far better (time efficient) to just catch the one fish for autocompletes and run 15 characters through that.
Thanks! I agree with the time issue, just wanted to make sure I was figuring this out right.
If you are working on the achievement for catching all fish, I would just keep fishing on your main until the buff runs out (they changed it a while back so turning in the quest shouldn’t cancel the buff any more).
For alts, I wouldn’t worry about the bonus per-fish marks. If the derby instantly completes, you don’t get the buff so just take the 10 marks. If the derby doesn’t insta-complete, you’ll get the buff and can go ham.
(I’ve not managed to figure out exactly why some alts complete and some don’t - maybe I’m just missing something obvious in a swirl of superstitions, but every theory I’ve come up with has been disproven by experience)
