Somewhere in my drunken surfing on the internet, I found an article about the best setup for fishing in DF. I didn’t bother to bookmark it, so I wonder what I’m missing
I know the Khaz Fisherfriend is the best pole (+15)
Wildercloth hat is the best hats (+6)
Boots of the Bay are the only buff for feet (+10)
Kalu’ak Figurine gives a temporary +15 buff
Use a Perception phial and keep chucking Scalebelly Mackerals in the water
Is there something I am missing?
I believe you can have a maximum of 182 fishing skill and 220 Perception, assuming you’re playing a Dracthyr (which has a natural 20 Perception) with every possible bonus.
Non-Consumables:
Khaz’gorite Fishing Pole 5* (+15 Fishing Skill, +110 Perception)
Nat’s Drinking Hat (+8 Fishing Skill [better than the +6 of the ‘rank 2’ DF fishing hat])
Boots of the Bay (+10 Fishing Skill)
Enchant Gloves - Angler (+5 Fishing Skill – requires a pair of ilevel ≤50 gloves)
Enchant Tool - Draconic Perception 3* (+40 Perception) =OR= Fishing Line (+1-6 Fishing Skill)
Sharpened Tuskarr Spear (+5 Fishing Skill)
Consumables:
Kalu’ak Figurine (+15 Fishing Skill)
Scalebelly Mackerel (+5 Fishing Skill)
Captain Rumsey’s Lager (+5 Fishing Skill)
Trawler Totem (+4 Fishing Skill [2m duration, 5m CD])
Fishing Lure (+10 Fishing Skill – can be applied via Nat’s Drinking hat, or some other fishing lures like Heat Treated Spinning Lure)
Crystalline Phial of Perception 3* (+50 Perception)
I’m not certain if you can, but if you’re able to apply fishing lines to the Fisherfriend, you could potentially get an additional +6 Fishing Skill by using an Ancient Fishing Line on it, for a total of 188 Fishing Skill and 200 Perception (220 if Dracthyr). EDIT: While you can apply fishing lines to the Fisherfriend, it does take up the enchantment slot, so you can’t have both +6 fishing and +40 perception.
Thanks!
I actually have applied the fishing ling to a Fisherfriend
It shows up as Enchanted +5. Which tells me the perception enchant would probably override it, but I’m not willing to waste a line for that.
Looks like I still have some stuff to gather.
The same site said something about the loot table being different at Dragonscale Basecamp. Tried it out last night and definitely got a lot less trash. But I didn’t fish up any coins or recipes, so I’m not sure it’s worth it
I’ve definitely gotten some copper coins while fishing in the basecamp, though I don’t remember how long I was fishing for or how many coins I got in that time…
EDIT: …and also discovered that, yes, fishing lines do take up the enchantment slot on a fishing tool.
