Hi to all… I just played for a month and did my first raid a few minutes ago.
(Eternal Palance : Grand Reception)
Heoric Raid Finder
It went well until we approaching the last boss and I accidentally hit “Time Warp” before we pull the boss. I have no excuse for this as it is my fault. (Its like 3am my time, and I thought weare attacking the boss which we isn’t)
Below is the conversation after I use my time warp.
Instance Leader : wtf
Instance Leader : Kick Jonesy
Me : just hit by accident
Instance Leader : for the 2nd time? not buying it.
(At this point I have no clue when was the 1st time he talking about. I am not saying its not my fault but I always use Time Warp swapping with my Icy Vein and make sure I will have Time Warp for the last boss)
Me : why so cruel ? Its 3am here
I started to see ppl use “roll” command and not sure if this is some kind of vote system or not. And I started to upset as for me I do not think without my Time Warp, it will ruin the whole raid. As I always observed on what everybody doing and trying to follow.
I saw 2-3 afk player thats not in the in the last room and for me it is make more sense to kick them.
So, my question is am I having a bad luck or this is normal in every raid. I know I press the wrong button but I do not think it is that critical at this moment.
The forums show your level 113. I thought you had to be 120 to queue for the Eternal Palace. There are good people and bad people in the real world and in the game. You can’t assume all raids will be filled with jerks just because of one. I’ve had few issues over my 19 years and thousands of hours raiding.
That said, you made a huge mistake and I’m not surprised you took heat for it. Just shake it off and move on.
In regards to roll, if someone gets loot they don’t need they sometimes say “roll” in raid chat and other players roll to see who gets it. Type /roll. Highest roll wins.
There are other times where two or more people whisper the guy with the loot and they decide to give it up and say “roll”. I’ve got a massive amount of loot from whispering people in raid. I inspect them to see if they need it. It’s not uncommon to pick up as much or more loot from others than I looted myself.
It’s incredibly common for people to troll LFR groups by using Time Warp/Bloodlust/Ancient Hysteria when it’s not actually useful. (Those buffs make a huge difference to the raids dps, and using them in the right phases can make fights go a lot more smoothly.) In many cases, if it gets used before a boss fight starts, it’s worth it to wait for the 10 minute debuff to wear off. That’s wasting 10 minutes x 25 people. So, that’s why it gets such a strong negative response, and there isn’t much benefit of the doubt given.
When doing LFR, if you aren’t sure when to use Time Warp, then either let someone else handle it or ask when it should be used on a fight. It’s a raid cooldown, not a personal DPS cooldown. In general, I look to see if there are other Mages/Shaman in the group, and if their are, I won’t use it at all unless I see calls for it during the actual fight. (Or if I’m super confident of when it’s best used in LFR.) If I see I’m the only one, I’ll ask in chat when I should be using it if I’m not 100% sure.
COMMUNICATION! COMMUNICATION! COMMUNICATION!
If you are new to the game or to raiding, say it up front.
An experience player who “accidentally” did what you did is intentionally trying to be a jerk.
A new player who did what you did will get some slack, BUT ONLY IF PEOPLE KNOW BEFOREHAND!
It could be 5am where they are or 3pm. Game is played 24 hours all over the globe.
The /roll command is used like:
Me: Gets awesome thing that I don’t need but 2+ others could use. Instead of giving it to a specific person I saw, “roll for xyz”
Others: type in: /roll which spits out a random # between 1 and 100
Me: Opens trade with highest # rolled and gives them loot.
I am not trying to troll or anything. I just accidentally hit the wrong button one time and got kicked out. Which for me isn’t make much sense. For public raid, you need to wait for hour. I am responsive and willing to explain what went wrong. It is not something unforgivable like trying wipe the whole party or anything like that.
I did another raid again today and theyre all nice.
When I do raid or dungeon runs, I put any group-wide Cooldown abilities I may have off to the side where I have to mouse-click on them to activate them just to avoid fat-fingering them by mistake.
At least you’re allowed to have Time Warp on a keybind.
My raid leader told me to remove it from my bars completely, I won’t ever be pressing it unless there are no other Shamans or Mages in the group, and he’ll still probably use Drums instead.
This really is underrated advice that should be added to the tooltip of Bloodlust, Heroism, and Time Warp.
I keep my bloodlust on Shift + R so I can’t accidently hit it. I would never mouse click any skills during combat that can cause delays and hinder your movement. Moving a mouse to click a skill takes longer than a key, and could cost you a GCD. Possible even overshoot or undershoot.
I can appreciate yor argument Ana, but for fights where the timing really matters, I know well ahead of time when I’m going to use the Cool-down and have prepositioned the mouse.
For fights where the cool down isn’t crucial, or for those “oh sh*t!” moments, it takes less than half a second to hit it with the mouse. I don’t mind the DPS hit if I lose a gcd in return for a quick group buff.
