like posted above , keep your extra gold with an alt, i disconnected and died with 60 gold and that stung, that gold would have really helped with my second character.
Be wary in caves. Try not to go alone when entering an enclosed space, especially for quests that require you to venture deep into it.

Check out the hardcore shaman guide on wowhead. If you’re not hard set on race consider Tauren for war stomp. 2 sec stun allows you to cast ghost wolf and run away or lesser healing wave with no pushback.
I suggest levelling as much as possible with 1 hand and a shield for safety until almost lvl40 or so, you can usually find cheap green weapon upgrades on.AH, having a slow two hander doesn’t make that much difference until level 40 enhance with stormstrike. Melderon on YouTube has a very detailed shaman levelling guide that helps for those questions.
Also main thing on shaman is always check your totems, make sure they don’t aggro. Searing totem is great unless you’re in an area packed with mobs and it pulls more, can even shoot across floors in a cave or other closed area. Totem timer addon is very useful too.

Situational awareness is key. If its safe to do so help people out starter and following zone have very high respawn rates so if playing off peak be careful of caves and camps.
If you screw a pull and have to dip its always good to have a say macro to spam run/dont help etc. As players are more likely to attempt to save someone than a regular server. If your planning to hit dungeons be over lvled. And make sure to train your defense skill, if it falls to low compared to lvl range you will get trucked by mobs your own level.

Plenty of advice threads with tips & info, most important thing to be aware of is that it’s not a race.
If you dont think you can do the quest right now, postpone it or find a group.

If you don’t know what quests to avoid and what areas of farming spots are dangerous, you will most likely die before hitting 60. Just be ready for that and enjoy restarting. If you don’t enjoy restarting over and over again, then skip hardcore.

Take care when using totems - they can pull for you.

Treat any cave you go into like it’s a mini dungeon. Or be safe and treat it like a full dungeon. The harpy cave in 1k needles for example I was in a full 5 man group and still felt risky af the entire time.
