Have we seen what the OEM 3080’s look like?
IIRC the 2080ti OEM were crappy blowers

I’m currently on a laptop…
i7 - 9750h
16gig ddr4
512g ssd
Gtx1660 ti
It’s a Asus ROG strix laptop
Should I just buy a monitor and live with that for now until other hardware comes out? Like I said SL will take up most of my life for quite awhile
You should have a good experience with that. That’s actually some pretty potent equipment.
Well, good thing I read the whole thread before replying this time. I was going to say this exact thing!
Seriously though, paying top dollar for cutting edge is fine if you can afford it and it’s important to you - but cutting edge does not typically stay cutting edge very long. If you want to future proof, you need to accept that your performance is going to degrade over time as titles become more demanding. That being acceptable needs to be part of the equation.
Yeah, it really depends. Through everything I’ve said, you will not once see me say buy some $1000 GPU - the point of diminishing returns in real. And $1000 GPUs is really where it’s at.
In my experience, $250-400 GPUs are the best balance of “more than enough for now and looking forward” than it is just buying high end for the sake of it.
For example I’d never recommend a Ryzen 9 3950x to someone who just games for more headroom…
but going from a 3600 to a 3700x isn’t a whole lot more and makes sense.
Do you think that 1660ti can handle 1440p on a decent monitor? Even a ultra wide…? And still have decent FPS for shadowlands?
It probably will be fine if you turn some stuff down.
lol, I would say great minds think alike…but I can barely remember where my car is parked so I won’t insult you
Ok, maybe I’ll wait a bit then. Thank you for all the responses everyone.
you can probably get 1440p 60FPS on level 7 (maybe level 8) with the GTX1660ti
Yes 100% wait and use that laptop for now. I can actually test the GTX 1660ti performance later as my laptop is a 3750h + said GPU. Ill hook it up to my 1440p monitor later and report back.
Thanks I appreciate that
wait mine is a 1660ti max q so slightly slower however that just means slightly better fps with your non max q
I run a 1660 Super. At 1080p x 1920p, 144hz, 24"monitor, everything maxed, in the WoW world, I get 82+fps, in a really busy place, as low as 58fps, no lower.
My card will be 100%, no matter fps, CPU about 55%. Ryzen 5, 2600
Thanks man. I’m looking at 1440p monitors though.
You’d probably be better off with at least a 2060 for 1440p but I’m not sure.
For 1080p though, the 1660ti runs buttery smooth all around especially with gsync on. I run that with a ryzen 5 2600.
