So i want to place my first crafting order but im a little apprehensive to do it. I have all the mats but im not sure if i will get a rank 5 or if someone will just pinch my stuff and waste it. How much i should pay for commission. Its for a ilvl 463. Ive tried looking up what i should offer and all the answers are a mish mash of different opinions. I dont want my spark of dreams to be wasted. Is it worth doing? I have gold but not loaded to the point where i can be sparing 10k-20k for 1 item which is what some pages i read say people are asking for. Is it worth using the craft order station? Trade chat just swallows my asking up and i dont want to be that person spamming trade chat
Make it a personal order (not a public one) and you can set it to 5 stars. I always tip a minimum 5k gold, sometimes more.
Setting it to 5 stars messes with the illustrious insight.
Ive never had a crafter have an issue with it.
How does the personal one work? I was under the impression that option makes it pop up for you to make yourself on an alt
No, with personal, you put in the name of the crafter you want to complete the order. So if you know of a blacksmith or tailor or whatever who can craft what you need, you just put their name in it and it sends it to them.
I dont know any which is why i was gonna make it public. I tried asking in trade chat but my msgs where just swallowed up in a sea of random convesations lol so i came to the forums instead. I didnt want to gamble my spark without being sure of what could happen
If you make it public, there’s zero guarantee on the quality, so you kinda have to just be okay with whatever you get back. It could definitely be 5 stars, but it could also be 2-3. If you get it back and it’s lower quality, you can always have it recrafted later by someone who can guarantee a 5 star and then you’d do a personal order and you’d have to pay another commission.
Maybe try watching trade chat for anyone advertising their crafting, if you haven’t already.
You could also go to your realm’s forum page and ask if anyone knows a crafter for whatever you’re wanting crafted. Or ask someone you know who has had stuff crafted.
Something I’ve wondered about too is what a ‘fair’ commission is for crafting orders. Seems like it’d vary a lot depending on several things, but I’m wondering if there’s anything like a ‘standard’ as well.
Good for you for even trying! The system is too damn complicated for me. Just selling mats this time around.
Personally, if you’re providing the mats, I don’t care about the commission. I’d do my best with the mats you provide, even throw in an insight if needed to push it over the top (I’m not currently in any danger of running out of mettle). I’m just happy to see orders to fulfill the fantasy of being useful.
Alas I don’t speak for all crafters.
Offering more gold doesn’t guarantee better service. Unfortunately, the way public orders are designed, it’s always going to be a gamble whether it gets picked up by someone who is maxed out or someone training a fresh crafter with barely the skill to make the item at all. At this stage of the expansion the odds have shifted significantly that you’ll get an experienced crafter, but there are no guarantees.
So I say pay what you feel good paying. 1000gp for a gear item is a common price point people offer. I’m always willing to accept more. I’ll not pass up an offer that’s less. (I don’t do toxic crafts yet - maybe in 10.2.5)
I saw a 50k offer for a lariat the other day that made me whimper. Alas, despite being what my jewelcrafter was originally specced out to make, the recipe still hasn’t dropped for me.
