What Could Be the First Unique Classic+ Class?
I’ve been thinking a lot about what Blizzard could introduce as the first truly unique player class for a Classic+ server. If they just gave us “Classic versions” of Monk, Demon Hunter, or Death Knight, it would honestly feel like modern WoW bleeding into Classic — and that would kind of miss the point.
Three options really stand out to me:
- Necromancer
“That’s just a warlock, bro!”
- Tinker
“We already have engineering!”
- Runemaster
“Just take Enchanting?”
And yeah — I have my doubts too! Each of these concepts overlaps with existing elements of the game. But with careful class design, and smart race & fantasy restrictions, I think any of these could be added in a way that actually fits the ethos of Classic — without being too over the top or breaking the world.
Which classes (if any) do you think could work in a Classic+ setting without making it feel like Retail-lite?
I really think Spellbreakers would be a great add
The twin blade + full shield look is great and you could see how they could do a tank and DPS tree. The world always needs more tanks…
Plus they could mix up the playstyle so it’s more about debuffing enemies so you hit harder / they hit you for less. Taking away their magical advantages type deal
Throw in the ranged component with their attacks and you have a unique tank flavor

Spellbreakers encapsulate a lot of what players want.
-spellblade melee dps
-anti magic tank
-elven rune master utility
you cant have spellbreakers w/o blood elves. its a little bit niche, like dark ranger, but i still love it.
runemaster could pull a lot from this spellbreaker fantasy but also some monk and mage while still be lore-friendly to races like dwarf and tauren.
everyone loves a good anti mage

I think they should make a new class and call it Friend of the Mysts.
This class will gain crazy new abilities and be super strong, but only when played in January, February, March, May, and August. Any other month, the class is extremely weak.

They should be faction specific and based on WC3 units. I prefer Tinker for Alliance and Necromancer for Horde.

if they gave horde goblins it could work too. lot of faction identity just within the tinker fantasy itself

I’d really prefer if they put that work into fixing the existing classes rather than add a new one that will inevitably be a source of problems.
Probably gonna be a hot take but i don’t really believe the new classes retail got made the game better. DHs and MW Monks in particular proved to be impossible to balance in PvP, specially RBGs.
New class = obligatory mechanical creep.
This is how you get classes that can go from one side of a BG map to the other in 15 seconds flat while still being a tank spec.

I would prefer Goblins to stay netural if they became playable. So if both factions got Tinker then Alliance could get Spellbreaker.

Spellbreaker sounds cool. Kind of like a battle mage. Warrior and mage mixed together
Literally an Enhancement Shaman.
Spellbreakers are just Blood Elf flavored Prot Warriors.
Alliance SpellBreaker in the mold of a Horde Enchantment Shaman sounds awesome. That is better than them shoehorning Shamans to the Alliance. Less homogeneity is better.
I would argue Spellbreaker is very different than Enh Shaman or Prot Warrior
- Their attacks have a mid-ranged component as they throw their weapon
- Spellbreaker magic is more about controlling enemy magic and not neccesarily direct spell damage
EX instead of a direct cast, a Spellbreaker could steal magic from an enemy and infuse their next weapon attack to hit for big damage or grant X buff for 15 seconds
You throw in plate/shield and they could be the spell damage leaning tank where a prot Warrior is more physical damage leaning and Pally being the best AoE control
Plus if they could control magic a bosses summon or a Warlock’s pet it would be hilarious

They need to add fishing as a class.
Leviathan hunter polearm/spear single target close range dps spec,
Net Master mid to long range mace pvp spec mobility control and pin and kill tactics.
Master Angler cleave build based on positioning and lining up executes as you stack bait and tackle buffs on your targets. Fishing pole weapons go!

imagine this w neutral murlocs xD
Part of me thinks that monk, dk, dh should be the first dibs on a new class
That said, all of them have too much mobility (or anti mobility in dks case) for the vanilla toolkits

I mostly agree before any new class is introduced, hybrid dps should be tuned up a bit. As a shaman/priest main I am with you 100%.
A new class is ballsy but adds an entirely new layer of replayability and depth to the ethos of the game, as long as the implementation is done with care for the existing game world feel.
Take runemaster for instance -
A hybrid that brings fresh rune mechanics to classic. What are runes? Magical artifacts around azeroth that grant runemasters borrowed power. The possibility for cool utility with runes is endless:
-Runemasters leading group rituals at gargantuan runestones hidden around azeroth to grant their parties unique world buffs for raid night
-Rune masters summoning their entire party to summoning stones without clickers.
-Runemasters summoning Way Gates , similar to mage portals, but the destinations are based on azeroths magical ley-lines, so locations are more … “random.”
-Runemasters discovering permanent buffs and abilities in the world via runes rather than from a trainer. Example: learning frost magic by completing Blackfathom Deeps
-A class-specific Runecrafting profession the runemaster uses to prepare spells, amplify their attacks and cast mostly cosmetic glows/effects on themselves & party members for cool RPing and screenshots, to light dark areas or to illuminate a main tank in raid
-Runemasters optionally hiding certain gear pieces in place of magical glowing tribal tattoos
Classic WoW for most players is the 1-60. It’s the journey, not end game meta. A new class, new profession, or new race does a lot to breath fresh air into the world for most players even though meta goblins may dislike change and worry about potential balance issues, and rightly so.
Even yall cant have any unique ideas anymore. Why is it always just those 3 and bard?

Now I am curious what cool ideas you’ve been cooking for a new classic + class. These were just the ones originally discussed by OG blizzard themselves in old dev interviews. Ideas ultimately scrapped in favor of death knight and monk.
