Fired by facebook is a thing?

So a big shot executive at Riot Games whom I shall remain nameless lost his sweet position for a thoughtless facebook post. The world has changed so I guess some of the folks that I personally have seen post some highly hateful stuff better start scrubbing those guild facebook pages. Just a suggestion,

I mean Blizzard rightfully so does not police what folks post on facebook right? I mean it would be horrible if folks lost their jobs or college admissions over such things.

I feel it’s always been kind of obvious not to post personal things online, especially attached to your real name. Facebook specializes in selling your information too. So it’s a good idea to never post on such places aside from mundane postitive things or keeping in touch with old friends and relatives.

Your social media has been grounds to be fired / not hired for as long as I can remember.

When you’re outside the office you still represent the company. That’s one of the first things you’re taught, surely. I was taught that at school when going on field trips.

The facts are simple, you have to be a god damn moron to post what he did.
My controversial and unnecessary post has lost me a job at a massive international company!? Shocked pikachu face.

Welcome to the real world.

I’m not exactly sure what your point is OP. People being fired over crap they say on Social Media, whether it be Twitter or Facebook, or anything else that can easily be tied to who you are in IRL is very common and has been for a pretty long time now.

I have absolutely zero doubt that Blizzard wouldn’t fire someone, especially someone as high profile as an executive, if they said that kind of crap on Facebook. ESPECIALLY if they said what the Riot executive said.

I’m just too lazy to look for examples where it specifically happened.

People get offended easy anymore and they take things too seriously, can’t expect them to take it as a joke or sarcasm anymore. Gotta watch what you say and how you say it, I know there was a snowflake generation but I think it’s become the norm anymore or it’s just contagious.

Stay silent and never share your beliefs. Unless you have so much money that you wouldn’t care.

Explain the joke/sarcasm about posting a victims criminal record?

People getting fired over opinions on social media is one of the chief reasons I distain and avoid it.

A good rule of thumb is to just keep your mouth shut on social media when it comes to political or anything remotely controversial.

I was only commenting on how you have to be wary about posting anything in a public setting, I really couldn’t care less about what happened nor was I going to google it, OP didn’t even give any details about it just that someone posted something on a public forum/social media platform and got in trouble for it.

Maybe people should think before they start typing :man_shrugging:
Actions have consequences.

We are talking about the Riot Game employee who was fired for posting the guys criminal history and saying that’s what happens when you live this life style.

How can anyone with more than 2 brain cells not realize that’s a bad thing to post? Or at least not worth posting.

There was no joke to it, what are you defending?

If i punched an old women in the face and got arrested would you be mad that you can’t playfully punch your mates in the arm anymore because you might get arrested for assault?

Social media was/is a trap for stupid people.

I think he was referring to the actor who played the elongated man on the flash tv series who was recently fired over 8 year old twitter posts. Now as for this example not a joke no but its his personal opinion on a matter how can one dictate what one believes and thinks and expresses with repercussions im pretty sure thats called fascism and isn’t that what people are against?

You don’t know how to read do you, I don’t have a clue about what happened nor do I give a flying f, read OPs original post and the information he provided that’s the extent of my knowledge. If you would’ve read my second or even my first comment you would’ve come to that conclusion.

And here we are talking about people getting triggered over a social media post.

I don’t know how to read?
The OP clearly said a riot games employee. That is the post at question.

Maybe it is you that needs to reread the OP?

Are you really this dumb? I’m seriously curious, he doesn’t say what happens, do you think I follow social media or riot games? I clearly said I have no further knowledge past what OP said, he doesn’t say that they posted someones criminal history on social media, NOR do I care to google it to find out. My posts were strictly about avoiding posting stuff on public forums that you wouldn’t want to get in trouble for. LIKE WOW
Do I need to hold your and and spell it out for you any further?

If you do know what he wanted to post, here’s a link.

He got fired because even outside the current climate, having an employee who says crap like that, ESPECIALLY an employee who is an Executive, is a bad look.

That ain’t fascism chief. Fascism is a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition, as well as strong regimentation of society and of the economy.

Getting fired because you said something dumb on Twitter or Facebook isn’t anywhere near Gulag’ing your political opponents because they exist.

Also this wasn’t 8 years ago. It was like last week.

So you’re saying I am the idiot because you’re choosing to comment on a situation you don’t know about?

Then google it. Learn before you decide to chime in with irrelevant and useless statements like “can’t expect them to take it as a joke” when the post this thread is about was in no way a joke, it was a dumb political opinion.

You’re in the same position as altash, Just wow. I don’t follow twitter or social media in general and I really couldn’t care less to know what happened. The topic at hand is whether you should get in trouble for posting something on social media you shouldn’t have in the first place otherwise there might be repercussions.
