Anyone playing Dire with the Venthyr covenant can confirm if it is still good.
I would like to try Fire but not ready to switch my renown 21 venthyr to Night Fae.

NF is just too good to pass up unfortunately for the fire spec. Fire damage is awful outside of combustion, and NF combined with kindling makes combustion a 1 min cd on average or less with higher haste more fireballs ect means faster cd reduction on combustion
Venthyr MIGHT give you an extra fireblast or 2 or not at all depending on the boss/trash mechanics.
Optimally, Venth will give you an extra Pyroblast in Combustion when Mirrors is up. I used it for one boss when I was switching to Fire, and even though my parse was purple (HC Xy’mox), I thought it felt terrible since Mirrors wasn’t always up when Combustion was, and the 2nd proc timing felt really inconsistent when Mirrors was up.

NF is just way easier to use, you just do your combust normally then convert the Heating up you get afterwards with the Fireblast you get from Shifting Power’s CDR.
Night Fae with infernal cascade and the conduit from a world boss is simply too good for fire. I upgraded my renown and actually had fun in TG last night. I could just start blowing stuff up whenever I wanted
Unless you’re playing the spec perfectly and running with top end groups, I see no real reason to switch. It’s still going to perform well. The simulations (https://cteer458.github.io/mage-sims/
) suggest that Venthyr is close enough to Night Fae as well. For M+, depending on how to pulls go, 90 second intervals is still having combustion ready for every other trash pack.
I play Venthyr Fire, it is completely fine, barely behind Night Fae (right now it’s more behind then usual due to missing a second potency conduit) .
Mirrors synergizes pretty well with combust, the only issue is that depending on the fight they are sometimes desync’d (though often, in practice, they sync okay because you need to delay for a mechanic or something). Even casting it on CD separate from combust, it does a lot of damage and gives you extra hot streaks, so it still does comparable damage to night fae.
Fire is really good with Venthyr and perhaps outperforms the sims. Mirror of torment is a fire and forget spell whereas night fae involves a few more mechanics even if they are minimal.
The key is the soulbinds. Under lvl 28 Night fae outperforms but once Nadja gets her second potency conduit, and even Theotar is less than 2k behind the max sims. Theotar is a little more to play around with that mastery aura, but Nadja is most definitely not a downgrade.
Unless you’re in a guild competing for world first, just play what you like, because you’re not losing anything.
Yeah but the problem is, with Night Fae you are getting 2 potency conduits to work with early on…Venthyr you have one for a while…whatever you guys say, is fine, but it still doesn’t take away from the fact that Night Fae is better for fire…
I switched fire and kept venthyr for a week. Swapped to night fae this past week. The rotation feels much smoother just having that little cool down on combust. Can nearly have 1 minute combust that lines up with pvp trinket. I don’t regret my choice and doubt I swap back even if they fix frost. You get charges of fire blast and cd reduction, not just 3 fire blast charges with a small amount of damage
Mirrors does a lot of damage, it’s competitive with night fae in single target as long as it is cast on cooldown. The only exception might be sludgefist (at current stat levels) since it’s harder for venthyr to hit those 1m damage windows.
Also you can cancel aura nadjia’s thrillseeker to line the haste up for combustion windows, which is makes it even more competitive (and possibly even a little better, with good rng)
Its not terrible for single target. I played venth fire for about a week before switching to night fae. In raid there’s not a lot of difference imo. But in m+ its night and day, night fae is so much better. My night fae ability alone will do up to 500k damage over the course of a dungeon. If you like pushing keys I would highly advise switching asap. I switch last saturday and i’m back to 19 renown already, not terrible, still wish you could just transfer renown.
Once everything is open soulbinds wise, people won’t necessarily be so married to Night Fae
