Fire Mage stat priority question

I understand that Fire spec DPS isn’t great right now, but I’ve been playing around with it because the playstyle is super fun.

My question is about stats. I’ve determined that Haste is the top stat to prioritize, but I’m struggling to decide which secondary stat to focus on alongside it.

When I tried Mastery, it felt pretty good due to the passive Ignite damage. I’m actually leaning towards this being the best secondary stat, especially since Pyroblast feels underwhelming (dealing only around a quarter million DPS, which seems too low— it should be closer to half a million, in my opinion— assuming they don’t hard buff every other spell in the kit soon).

I also experimented with Crit, but I noticed a slight DPS loss. I’m not seeing any more or fewer crits compared to when I had more Mastery, honestly.

Lastly, I gave Versatility a try, though I didn’t stack it very high. It didn’t feel noticeable to me, but that might be due to the lower amount I used.

I’m figuring out the spec’s stat priorities using Heroic dungeon gear, so I know things will likely change later on.

Can any other Fire masochists share their experiences with these stats in terms of stat weights for Fire spec? Thanks!

from what I understand fire mages still struggle to survive in higher content, so versatility is pretty important.

That said when you finally start getting higher level gear your 2ndary stats will be a spread. It’ll be like, Haste most important, followed by versatility, mastery, then crit or something

I think it depends mainly on if you are running sun king’s blessing or unleashed inferno. Haste is really good if you are running sun king’s blessing because you are able to dish out crits pretty fast to ensure you have a lot of uptime on combustion. I started running unleashed inferno for dungeons since yesterday and I like it even though I’ve been focusing on haste, but imo I think crit would do well with unleashed inferno since those pyro crits outside of combustion really help keep a long hot streak chain going, thus reducing the cooldown of combustion faster.

It was a different expansion, but in Dragonflight Season 3 I was running about 60% crit with unleashed inferno and I liked it a lot, but I started experimenting and running haste with sun king’s blessing and found it to be more efficient.

I believe most sites and guides say unleashed inferno is better for right now, but I definitely believe that haste should be priority if you run sun king’s blessing and crit should be priority if you run unleashed inferno. Mastery should be right up there for the ignite damage since the ignite build is the best build since the MASSIVE living bomb nerf.

Verse after that and then the other stat imo.

So imo the stat priority for if you run sun king’s blessing should be:

  1. Haste
  2. Mastery
  3. Verse
  4. Crit

And if you run unleashed inferno the stat priority should be

  1. Crit
  2. Mastery
  3. Verse
  4. Haste

Keep in mind it’s gonna feel suuuper slow if you don’t have much haste, but critting on most of your pyroblasts even outside of combustion will make up for it.
