Blizz, is there an intention for what you expect players to do when capped on knowledge for a profession? I have fully filled every point in my Skinning profession, yet I can still continue to obtain profession knowledge. I have 5 extra points and nowhere to spend them. Should I keep gathering knowledge in case future skills are added? Will that not be reset? Am I wasting my time/gold? I can’t find any info on this, and it seems to give no other benefit aside from just having extra unspendable points for the time being.
This many weeks from the beginning expansion. Made sure to do the max points each week (there’s a WeakAura that tracks all the possible things you can do). Only takes an hour a week to knock those out usually. I got capped at the beginning of this week. Didnt use any Dragon Shards of Knowledge, so it’s possible to do it faster. I used all of those on LW

Blizz has not released any information on what the future is for KP. Based on things they’ve done in the past, and the fact you will continue to passively accrue KP without deliberately hunting for it, use that time for something else and ignore your excess.
If you’ve maxed out all your skinning skills then, (firstly, well done!) I doubt you’ll be allowed to stockpile skill points for the next expansion. If you’re lucky they might turn them into trash items you can get gold for but, either way, you’ll be starting the next expansion with skinning at zero.
Thanks! I’m more concerned about them releasing more skills in a future patch THIS expansion though. I’m sure youre right they wont carry over to the next. The fact that we can stack them beyond the cap without anything to trade them for is a weird oversight…I mean, they HAD to know we’d cap them, and it’s not like I’m the first one to do this. Someone definitely could have done it faster than this by using their Dragon Shards…
I made a post about the same thing - I capped skinning and herbalism this week. You keep getting points and artisan mettle and they sit on your profession interface as unspent points. The most annoying thing is you keep getting notified that you have unspent profession points.
I have every profession on alts… herbalism will finish next in a month or so. Then tailoring and engineering in 2+ months. For me, blacksmith has the longest to go.
Even if them being stored up means more wheels to fill this expansion (eg released in 10.2) until then I wont put much effort into getting more points.
It would be nice for the “you have unspent profession knowledge” popup on every login to go away.
It would be nice to know if there are going to be additions to the spec tree in the future that will use any accumulated KP (“profession updates” have vanished from the roadmap and although I don’t mind continuing to do my weekly quota of KP-hunting if there will one day be a use for them, I’d like to switch that gathering time to alts if I’m “done” on my main for the expansion)
