I forgot to report this bug on the stress test. The ore’s finder icon appears as a buff, while in Vanilla it appears as a circle attached to the minimap.
Did it in Vanilla? I thought that was a change in BC when they added the minimap tracking menu.
I was really caught off guard by this to, but im fairly sure it was a buff in classic. Its a very faint memory, but it works better as a vuff.
In vanilla it was in your general skillbook. You had to enable it after logging in and after each death. It then appeared next to you buff/debuff icons.
No it was not a buff. My hunter had to turn off tracking in order to track minerals. It took a spot on the side of the minimap.
Cata is when they became buffs and you could track more than one.
In vanilla you were only allowed to track one thing at a time.
Ooooookay you for sure have no idea what you’re talking about now.
to be fair its a little over a decade ago…
In vanilla “find minerals” was in your spell book. You had to pull it out and put in your action bar and click on it.
You are right though…it applied a buff. It was not a spell. Only 1 buff could be active so hunters could not use their tracking spells.
Apply Aura: Track Resources (Mining)
Apply Aura: Track Creatures (Humanoid)
Yes. In the default UI, you see a circle on the upper left edge of the minimap with the Mining ability icon. It doesn’t go on the buff row.
1.12 client does not show it as a buff. Clearly displays as a circle attached to the upper left side of the map
I love the irony of this sentence.
It’s not a visible buff on the buff bar, it’s an icon on the minimap. People like you are confusing the drop-down tracking menu that was introduced in TBC with what it was during Vanilla.

Go look at any vanilla pvp videos and notice how the herb/ore tracking icon is always on the top left of the minimap and how there’s no buffs related to tracking on the buff bar.
Oh wow yea it suppose to be an icon on mini map top left. 1.12 had it on mini map thinking back it was same due to on my hunter while farming ore I could not track humanoids.
Right…it was always a pain for hunters cause they couldn’t use any of their tracking abilities. Only 1 tracking ability at a time and it always showed in the same place on the minimap…the icon in the circle told you what you were tracking.
This is a classic “it may have changed during Vanilla, or it may just have been a common addon” problem.
It definitely was not on the minimap at launch. It definitely was on the minimap during BC.
In between those, we don’t have 100% definite evidence and have to rely on Blizzard’s in-house 1.12 client, unless someone can find a video or something, from the right timeframe, showing it on the minimap, that also lists addons and includes no addon that could have done that.
It was on the minimap in vanilla.
You clicked on the spell and the circle icon went on your map.
Die and it fell off and you had to click it again.
Might want google out old videos. But it was on the mini map my friend.
Please consult my post for descriptions of why I already answered these statements.
Check the Brady guide, page 191 about gathering professions.
Tells you exactly what we have posted here and even a reminder to reclick the spell after death.
It was on the mini map. Sorry man you’re wrong.
