A friend and I attempted to pet battle each other using the Find Battle queue, but it never popped for us. Is it bugged? We both had level 25 pets in our parties.
The few things we tried:
Queuing on separate realm clusters
Queuing on the same realm
Queuing in a party
Queuing while not being in a party
Leaving queue and re-queuing at the same time
Leaving queue and re-queuing at different times
Standing in Boralus (where the pet-battle duel is not an option)
Standing outside Boralus in a non-rested zone
None of these options ever popped up a Battle option, even with a different player who may have been queued at the same time. We attempted to battle multiple times over the course of half an hour and wielded no results. So what gives?
Blizzard has not confirmed any of this, but among PvP battlers, after sharing experiences, and after some specific tests, it is believed
- Each WoW Account, not each character, is assigned to a “Pet PvP Battlegroup”, probably based on the realm of the first character created on that account.
- Characters entering “Find Battle” are assigned to a queue depending on the “Pet PvP Battlegroup” of their WoW Account.
So if you and your friend are assigned to different “Pet PvP Battlegroups”, you will not meet in the same Pet PvP queue.
Why did Blizzard do this? Probably to minimize exactly what you were trying to do - having people who know each other meet in the queue, and perhape win-trade for rewards and achievements.
They’ve also implemented MMR, so even if you’re in the correct battlegroups you might be in different brackets.
If they’re both new to Pet PvP, that wouldn’t separate them. Also, we do not know how any separation is implemented, or how rigid it is. Blizzard just said that newcomers would not have to face more experienced players, but we don’t know exactly what the parameters for that are.
Whatever about that, all this separation makes it difficult to find an opponent. any opponent, considering that without these artificial separators, having just two people in a whole region would be able to find an instant match.
