Hmmm…it depends.
There are a lot of cases where that isn’t true, but also a lot of cases where it is.
I can’t say much about the current expansion, but prior I don’t feel like many fights had a high degree of personal responsibility, even in heroic.
That was one of the significant outcries of the Anduin fight (and Sepulcher in general) at the time, that players hadn’t been subjected to such harsh personal responsibility for a long time, and that when faced with it players failed (which sucked to them) and also failed the raid (which sucked for the rest of the group). Which is also why the mechanic was all but essentially removed in LFR eventually.
Even in fight like Ghuun, you really only needed a small handful of people to take on the responsibility and carry the entire raid.
The benefit with Gnomer is that as far as I’m aware there aren’t really any enrages so you can brute force them with a handful of people as long as sustain is fine.
For example a single person can kill most bombs as long as a couple of people are turning off vents, you only need a single person to know how to clear clouds on Grubbis, and as long as you have a tank, heals, and dps you can slowly chunk down Crowd Pummeller as long as you don’t get hit.
But there is still electrocutioner, which 100% is a personal responsibility fight, and if enough people mess it up you simply don’t have the players to manage the debuff any more.
It’s swings and round-a-bouts in my opinion.
Of course we simply don’t have the range of data for SoD compared to retail either.
They could turn around and make a bunch of super easy tank and spanks, or they could turn around and make some complex 6+ mechanic fights who knows.
I don’t think we can easily say one versus the other, they are both different and built for differently designed game systems.
I do. I don’t care about “true Classic Andy’s” though.
Thermaplugg is the closest thing we have to a normal difficulty retail boss and I enjoy it.
Our casual raid group even does better than some speedrunning groups in my guild because the fight is more than just mashing 2 buttons rotations with full WB and consumables.
I’ve never said raid content was hard its a puzzle. But I remember way back when vanilla first came out you didn’t speak the name gnomer ask for a carry through gnomer on my server. People hated that place. Honestly the difficulty increase to the bosses amd wiping in there brings some weird form of nostalgia from those days.
8.5/10 due to that feel.
YEA LETS GIVE IT UP FOR HEAVYWOOD! DOING THE HEAVY LIFTING AND UPROOTING THE LAST BOSS! GIVE A ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR HIM DOWNING THE LAST BOSS THAT WOOD STAND IN HIS WAAAAAY!
Now its time for 7/6.

Your observation is shared by a lot of people. Even streamers have pointed out this same issue when Ulduar was released in WOTLK classic.
Not sure devs have picked up on it or if anything can be done.
It’s a fine balance to appease both sweaties and dads.
Yes, your personnel between guilds is likely different. I dont imagine you play with the same people.
Gnomer is easy. Only boss we didn’t 1 shot was the spider guy because people needed to experience the positioning first.
The only complaint I have with Gnomer is the near instant transition from boss 5 - 6 in the same location.
If you kill managerie on the far side of the room from the entrance you’re dead. (Ask me how I know…lol)
Difficulty wise, I’d put it about on PAR with BWL stuff, relative to the respective player power.

Pretty much, mechanics wise he’s not that hard, it’s just stupidly long. And it could be reduced to just the last phase and still have all the same mechanics checks.
Well, just like casuals and every other MMO out there, without the Dads there is no Classic. And a lot of us are on a short timer left on our subs.
Phase 2 just isn’t fun and at this point we don’t trust them to fix the problems or direction for phase 3.
Difficulty wise, BFD was the absolute max that they could have gone. Kelris was one mechanic too heavy for the Dad audience, and they managed to completely miss that mark with Gnomer going full retail on the raid development.
SoD has very quickly turned into just another sweat lord haven.

I personally enjoy it because it’s challenging and keeps you on your toes as a healer. The boss is not too mechanically difficult, but you do need to pay attention and be on your A game because he hits like a truck. PvP sucks right now because of the insane damage, so as a healer, somewhat challenging PvE content is really all I have left to enjoy.
I totally get the complaints though. It’s not a pug friendly or faceroll raid like BFD was. Alot of people also only raid to get gear for PvP and want to get it over with ASAP and mindlessly. This is not a good raid for that.
It depends on what you want i guess. I know that if gnomer was faceroll like BFD. I’d absolutely stop playing SOD given the ABYSMAL state of PvP right now, Particularly for healers
There’s absolutely no way he’s harder than heroic sark unless sarkareth is a complete joke, thermaplugg is probably like ulduar thorim tier which isn’t too bad very manageable. My guild took out gnomer 5/6 first day and then 6/6 next attempt if we tried a heroic tier in retail it’d probably take like a month of prog unless a raid tier is weak
Lol. It really isn’t if your tanks are good and you know how to handle the bombs.
I find menagarie more annoying TBH.
