Wouldn’t have much of a game if they did. Funny enough, there was more of an attack on dragons in WoW until Candylandflight decided to bring them back for god only knows what for lol.

WoW had the opportunity to do something like this in Legion when artifact weapons were a thing. I know some people were mad they couldn’t get weapon drops as loot in dungeons and raids, but narratively I think it would have allowed players to get involved in the cosmic stuff in a way that made sense. Imagine that Antorus had a fel barrier that instantly melted anyone that came into contact with it, and only players can enter because the artifact weapons are protecting them from the fel barrier. Likewise imagine if in BFA the artifact weapons were key to protecting the player character from the influence of the old gods. Imagine artifact weapons are what allowed the player character to take the prophesized role of Maw Walker in Shadowlands. It would still be a bit hokey, but at least it would be narrative foundation to build around.

Hindsight that would have been so much better, particularly for Shadowlands imo

FF14 is the game I buy every 2 years, play aggressively for that month, then leave happy and never once feel like my time was wasted.

I play FF14 for the story. While FF14 writers don’t blow up a city or burn down a tree every time a character monologues, I still really enjoy the way they pace it and really like how they handle villains and how the main cast does grow/develop overtime.

XIV is my home but it’s boring at home right now, the current expansion is so solo focused that it feels like I’m playing WoD again and I basically raid log. At the moment Dragonflight open world with its massive outdoor group events feel like a breath of fresh air to me.

More social than retail WoW is now, people actually talk in groups, and in towns, etc. Retail WoW is far removed from an MMO, unless your definition of an MMO is endless grinding, then yeah, WoW is definitely an MMO whereas FFXIV is not.
