What are people using for mythic plus dungeons (herald of the sun)
People are generally just using ES in all forms of content. FR’s AoE capabilities were nerfed coming into this expansion. You can still use it and be fine, but It’s easier to justify using ES everywhere because ret’s ST somewhat relies on it.
You don’t need FR to have good aoe dps but you do need ES to have good single target dps.

i recently switched to ES and I’m finding it to be a lot more effective, but that’s just my sense. dumb question, but IIRC the tooltip used to say only single target ability damage factors into ES damage. If that’s still the case, does it make more sense to continue using DS after ES is applied, or forgo the AOE dmg and stick to FV until ES finishes?

They nerfed the ST of FV, BoJ and HoW coming into TWW but buffed the AoE.
Effectively locking us into ES to have any chance at competitive ST.
I used to be fine with ES existing but now that it’s basically considered a “must” have for our ST damage to be relevant, I kind of whish it would go away.
FR is much cooler in everyway.
That would also probably liberate some design space on the nodes below if they only have to work with FR instead of working with both.
I don’t remember what it used to say but the current function is that it’s a 20% buff on all damage you deal on the target from your kit* only done after the 8/12 second.
I don’t think Trinket damage or other stuff like that gets factored in.
I still use final reckoning for mythic plus. It hurts me a little on bosses, but I feel it more than makes up for it on aoe.

This. Especially since the majority of the fights in M+ is on trash.
I get it, I do on why people use ES for single target but FR does give us a 30% increased damage on our single target holy abilities AND an addition 15% damage increase on trash. I myself think that a lot of power to be left on the table.
