Final Fantasy XIV has me sold, farewell WoW

right, that’s what they all say.

but did you forget this was your claim - so why were you playing it before?

If it were a 10% drop then yeah. 10% on the minority platform without knowing if they quit or just switched platforms? No, I can’t agree that it is bad. Even if they all just straight up quit, it is still a minority platform and the 10% is more likely to be in the sub-1% because very few people (comparably) play it on Steam.

Made up smaller numbers to try to illustrate what I mean.

100,000 players on PC
100,000 players on PS4/5
20,000 players on Steam

220,000 total

10% of 20,000 leave so 18,000 remaining. 220,000 → 218,000 is a loss of less than 1%.

edit: And that is assuming they just straight up quit rather than add another version to their mogstation account to get away from steam. (Steam is pretty awful for ffxiv.).

edit2: Or if they found out there is a workaround to not have to use the steam client even if you bought the game on steam. This is what I do.

It does seem like the 6 month sub thing is used a lot as an excuse as to why people still post on the forum. Honestly, besides trolling, I’m not sure why anyone would continue posting on the forum of a game they dislike and no longer play. It seems like that time could be used to play the game you do like.

Thanks, I love a good laugh in the morning.

When you play the game for a greater part of 17 years you hope that it would actually be good again.

This isn’t made up data. The game has been suffering a -1.5% (or more) daily drop over the last week. It’ll go back up when the expansion launches, but it’ll very likely be down -20/30% by the end of the month. It falls in line with people playing the game, getting bored, and also announcements of 9.1.5 + New World coming out. It was a short-term fad because nobody really talks about FF14 anymore since 9.1.5 was announced.

This so much. This is why quality has gotten so stale, and also why I believe other MMOs try so hard to copy this awful game. For the future of MMOs I hope WoW dies and the formula is forgotten/replaced, anything to not have emulations of this game or be the blueprint for future MMOs.

I didn’t say it was made up. I am saying everyone that plays on Steam could quit and it still wouldn’t be a 10% population drop. Very few people played on Steam. Most have straight PC licenses or PS4/5. Steam doesn’t (can’t) monitor actual population, only that which uses their client to connect to the game.

I still think the game is pretty good. Not as good as it was, but still good. It’s good to have different opinions.

I know when I buy game if there is a stand alone non-steam client that’s the one I go for every time. I’m thinking a lot of other people do that too.

Yep. That is the case. I am on the steam client personally (base game was a gift and the gifter didn’t know any better, lol). I am stuck with it now, as far as purchases go at least, but I found a workaround to launch the game client without the need to go through to steam client. Based on the person I replied to though, I quit playing… even though I did not, in fact, quit playing.

Imagine missing out on his ilvl 197 gear :frowning:

OP you should try this game called “the sims” i think you would really like it. there are lots of emotes and dances and hairstyles. well i hope you enjoy my suggestion

They like trolling and taking part in the forum PvP. You always see the excuse of they love this game and keep hoping it will get better blah blah blah blah.

They like stirring the pot up and fighting with people. That’s all it is.

Does the OP want a ticker tape parade?

Or just someone to reassure him he’s making the right choice.

If you like FF, go for it.

These are video games. Not life or death decisions. Honestly, not even really important decisions.

Does WoW have flaws? Sure. Does FF have flaws? Sure. Can both be fun? Yup, definitely.

But why come here trying to convince people you are the smart one by leaving?

I wouldn’t laugh at this. I am sure Blizzard is not laughing.

I play both WoW and FF XIV. It’s not hard.

Just popping in to say this: The Lore and world, the graphics and crafting in ESO, all better than FF14. But WoW combat is better than both.

Why FF14 is getting so popular with WoW players, I’ll never know, didn’t think there were that many anime nerds in the wow playerbase.

It’s actually good to play other games? I really enjoyed playing through Shadowbringers and can’t wait for Endwalker.

Ngl tho, idk why you’ll like to act as though someone is forcing you to play WoW.

@OP - you’ll be back. You have too much time invested in WoW to leave.

Not that FFXIV isn’t better than WoW in many aspects and for many people, but you’ll come back when you get bored one day or Blizz releases a new content patch that intrigues you.
