Real nice read and great respect for the most successful MMO in the world World of Warcraft
not only does he say WOW inspired him and gave him ideas on what( like implementing wows systems) to do to make Final Fantasy better but he is an avid wow player
I am one of the few who didnāt! But I donāt keep up with devs or games I donāt play. Hell, I donāt even keep up with news or bios on devs of any game I do play. LOL
They played WoW when you can get good gear with Valor Points that is (roughly) equal to tier and thatās pretty much the system they use, except instead of having tier sets they have the ātokenā set and the āraidā set where the only difference is the stat itemization and the rate of acquisition.
Yoshi-P also talks about loving Ultima Online and some other mmos too. In a very recent interview he talked about him and his team diving into New World as soon as FFXIV Endwalker launches and settles down. Hes very much a gamer and works hard at his character in FFXIV. He talks about earning the things he needs for his gear and how he and his team love casual players and hardcore ones.
I recently heard that Yoshi P. has given 32 or so interviews that take an hour with various streamers. Zepla and Asmongold for instance, and no pre-submitted questions.
yeah and he also says he hates how some people are hating on those who donāt like fully commit to a game. Like how we get threads hating on Asmongold or whatever because they quit WoW.
Iād be surprised
Anyone who values the quality of their work isnāt going to do some of the things Blizzard has done for years The one that I always think of first is Blood of Sargeras and Expulsom. Thereās a vendor in Legion Dal that trades BoS for crafting mats and BoA order resources, there wasnāt at the start of Legion so if you were a double gatherer or just otherwise had no use for it then you had a way to trade it. Come BFA Expulsom has the same problem but no vendor, never added one I donāt think, why wouldnāt you have the vendor there on launch since you surely should have learned from Legion. I would imagine anyone working on a longstanding project would only make that mistake once.
Players can see the changes Blizz is going to make later and thatās why some players arenāt even surprised at the changes coming in 9.1.5, those are things that should have already been there.
Fun factā¦many game devs after 8 to 12 hour daysā¦go home and play something else.
if only to not ātake work homeā. Or to see how other games do it.
for example Iād be guessing someone on the new world team also plays wow. and eve or some other mmo with a buy order system.
and said yeahā¦I didnāt like how wow lacks this. so, yeah, lets put in a buy order system. with the side not eve players like me are very happy with that. we donāt even go meh, you stole this from eve. By all meansā¦be inspired and take that buy order idea.
Iād be happy if wow devs got inspired with buy orders too.
Yeah, imo itās a huge contributer to FF14s success, and how it really should be for all head devs. He isnāt afraid to learn what makes other games good, and rather than just straight up copy those ideas, he looks to see if thereās any way to put an FF14 spin on it.
Itās much more preferable to the current Blizz way of āWe know whats good for you so shut up and give us your money!ā or other companies āI like your game, I think Iāll take it!ā
It also really helps that we know heās a gamer, we know he loves FF14 and wants to treat it right. When we look at Ions in we seeā¦ wellā¦ we see a shaman that has barely touched 90% of the systems in the game. Yeah sure he probably plays a lot internally, but we donāt know that, all we can see of his involvement is his barely touched shaman. He never shows any emotion over the game and, at least when he used to do interviews, just basically spouts out facts on what they are doing and why youāre wrong.
Isnāt it interesting though? A game that seems to be loved is directed by a Dev who plays and cares about Wow, unlike Wow devs who donāt play it and seem to hate it.
