Bunny bois aren’t in the alliance, sadly.
Close. They’re called the Hrothgar, and they’re the best cat-dads you’ll find in-game. Endwalker promises to release the gender-lock on Viera and Hrothgar so you’ll be able to be bunny-boys and cat-moms at last!
I propose we get Incubus/es(whatever the plural is)to compete with FF catboys.
Hold on. Wait just a second. Stop the presses!
This isn’t the Castlevania Circle of the Moon forums!
No reason for alts, just fantasia. xD
I love how much Fantasia just gets given out. Though it does make me wonder just who amongst Eorzea’s residents are… All-natural, I’ll say. XD
This actually bugged me when I first tried out FF14, before Shadowbringers came out. I was stuck on the race select screen for a bit because none of the races actually appealed to me, but whenever I went through a zone and saw one of the beast tribe races, I kept thinking to myself “man, I wish I could play one of those instead.” (Although I kinda do the same thing with WoW: give me drakonid or naga or something like that)
I don’t think I’ll ever get the appeal of “human with animal ear prosthetics” as a race, though. The viera especially, since they’re not only the third iteration, but they look like something you’d have found on Hugh Hefner’s payroll.
I’ll be getting a female Hrothgar soon. They are kinda hordie
Uh, yeah? That’s like walking into a Japanese restaurant and complaining about the lack of chimichangas.
…Look, the horde is already trying to reform itself, like, why would you even suggest that? How about the red pox comes back, or something. Or Zandalar finally sinks to the ocean.
Cruel and unusual, that is.
Looking into their bio, it seems they’re supposedly Ronso-- but i’m still not certain how two worlds work with lore at the moment.
…they’re what? I have recalled they weren’t too shy with females.
edit: The concept might seem too alien to me for now.
FFXIV is an Asian MMO.
Beast races or “ugly” races tend to be very unpopular among the Asian market. Its not just an FF problem.
If FFXIV overtakes WoW, I fully expect we will see the Developers consider doing what WoW has done in the past. Take ideas and add them. So you’ll probably see Trolls and Orcs and other beast races like Hrothgar in time.
They’ll be designed just enough that the Lawyers can’t sue, because companies with their backs to the wall get hyper sue-happy. But I wouldn’t be surprised by it. Final Fantasy has plenty of races that are classically beast like, such as Espers that could fit the bill.
I mean… I like WoW right now, but the fact is Blizzard needs to shape up and has needed to shape up for a very long time. We all know this, tweets on Twitter by certain employees confirm it; and if they are too self-centered to change then they deserve the fate they get.
As Nostralius proves, WoW will live on in Private Servers in the end.
Will preface this post by saying this is all in my own personal opinion.
This was a huge let down for me as well, since they’re both from the same series.
As I’ve grumbled about before multiple times, I really don’t care for the playable races in FFXIV. There doesn’t seem to be much variety, and it all strikes me as being very banal. It also doesn’t really paint me with a lot of confidence for future playable races, given that they would make human races with animal parts stapled onto them and bunny girls of all things as expansion races, let alone that the character creation seems very limiting in general.
Hrothgar is a great choice to add variety, but the game needs more IMO. With something like WoW and Everquest, you have quite a variety of playable races. Sure, you have multiple flavors of humans and elves, but you also had races like lizardmen, ratfolk, frog people, Ogres, and such in the Everquest games. Even ESO, with its multiple flavors of humans, at least has lizardmen, cat people, and Orcs as available choices.
It’s moreso a problem for me when I love having alts, and FFXIV is far from being alt friendly. If I were going to focus on just one character, I’d want to be a race I’d like, and from what there is…nothing interests me at all.
As I’ve mentioned before, if Bangaa ever become playable, I’ll consider giving the game a try. Mostly because I love lizardmen races and Bangaa are in the game already. However, as I said, I don’t have much faith in them adding in interesting playable races in the game.
I get that the game is made by a Japanese company, and tastes in the Asian market are different, but the game is played by more than just Japanese players. It would be great to have a variety of races that appeal to both the west and east preferences, which would be great in the long term. It would make the game a lot more interesting to me, IMO.
I recognize FFXIV as a good game, but I wish the race selection was much better with more variety. As I said, all in my own personal opinion.
Yeah it’s funny when Horde talk about their races being more interesting, when its most humanlike races are overwhelmingly the most popular and its most beastlike races are dead least popular. If you look at player populations, Horde is just Alliance with an edgy red label taped on.
Yeah, it’d be nice to get something a bit less human (GOD I wanted Burmecians so badly. Amazing DRG glamour AND possible Cleyran DNC outfit? INSTANT FANTASIA). Asian-centric media is hard to get beastfolk-women from.
A big struggle I had with even starting FF14 was how boring the races are. Even Hrothgar are subpar for a bestial race. And then I saw the Beast Tribes and I was wishing for those to be playable. Alas, it’s just different flavors of the same race, a toddler, and a hunchback in a furry suit.
Still, I’ve come around to my Hrothgar. Still prefer my Tauren, however.

Freya is BIS.
Tauren and Worgen (the males of the latter, at least) are kind of my bar for beastlike races. Bog standard humanoid body w/fur + animal head + maybe tail are letdowns, and even vulpera fail that test.
