So I’ve been playing both WoW and XIV lately. For the past couple weeks I tried doing their version of arena called feast, which is 4v4.
Yikes. Lemme start by saying that I haven’t wanted to drop a game completely and run back to WoW this fast in a while.
It runs on old netcode. That means every attack and heal is treated like a missile with travel time.
Is that DPS really low? Got a heal you’re in the middle of casting? Better hope they don’t get bursted because even if the heal goes off they’ll still die.
Even the shield cooldown that’s like PW:Shield has a travel time and even when the buff indicator is on their frame, that doesn’t mean it’ll work right away.
Die hard PvPers in the game will go on about how you just have to predict things better, know when burst is coming in, etc. This basically means that if you’re a healer, you better know how each individual DPS bursts and how many seconds it takes them to ramp up to it.
Also, trinkets aren’t instant either. I can use it and there’s a small lag as to when I can start healing again. This leads to easy bursts on a healer when you CC them at half health with it available.
Basically, as a newer player I don’t know how to be one step ahead of something that I don’t know how it looks to begin with and the game’s core coding is completely punishing to any kind of reactive gameplay and favors predictive gameplay.
WoW is miles ahead for PvP than FFXIV. I’ll never take the instant effects of ability uses, trinkets, and being able to react to burst and have my abilities even go off in time to matter for granted again.

yeah i couldnt get over the huge gcd in that game to even get to the level cap
the way they handled specs though was really cool and i wish wow would do something like that with their game
resident housing was also quite cool vs garrisons being a copy and paste instanced farmville game

There isn’t any other good MMO’s out there for PvP right now. People say FF or GW2 or even the Korean games but those games just suck.
Blade and soul pvp is really satisfying if you get your combos in.
I enjoyed the game mostly but yea the pvp was garbage and I never stuck around because of it.

swtor is the only other game with decent pvp outside of wow.

BnS is fun but its way too centered around hard counters
This and Tera, issue is dead game
GW2 doesn’t suck at all. The combat and gameplay is really smooth and promotes fast reactions. Just need more people to play it.
GW2 is fun for a few days but it sucks overall

I played FF14 fir 30 minutes and put the controls down and never picked it up again
I heard they got rid of the holy Trinity and healers don’t exist. Kinda lost interest right then and there. It’s a cool design but my friends enjoy playing healers only and I’m going to play with my friends before anyone else.
There are some dedicated healers, you can look up a druid and there should be something out there that showcases it, and I haven’t played in some time but GW2 has a combo effect for finishers for dps / hybrid builds. So on my Templar build my whirlwind inside a light field would also shoot out cleansing bolts. It really isn’t as terrible as it sounds.
With the current state of WoW pvp literally any thing is better.

This actually sounds 10x harder than WoW PvP.

this is the big one for me.
A great example of wow done wrong is SWTOR. which has a lot of really fun ideas and aspects to it, (or used to.) but it’s on a really bad engine. even at launch the engine was frustrating and bad feeling, and it hasn’t been updated yet to my knowledge.
I say SWTOR because it’s genuinely a clone of wow. Same class design, still used wow’s old talent trees until a few expansions ago. etc.

While I love FFXIV, their PVP doesnt compare, that is something I can fully agree with. Their overall PVE content is well good in my opinion, but out of all MMOs I’ve played, its been WoW and ESO that have had the best PVP for me.
Uh so greater pyroblast? Lmao
