FFXIV Claims

Keep in mind it almost definitely includes Trials and definitely includes people with 8 accounts as “8 players”. It’s also surprisingly easy to end up technically having multiple WoW “accounts” despite not playing any. I think I’ve actually logged in to 3 total, ever (main + alt + RaF from a decade ago), but I still had 5 options in my dropdown at one point in the past before I had customer service delete some starter accounts that were there.

I think we should look forward to competition, because there really isn’t any, at least from other MMO’s. There’s plenty of competition from other sources, media and games. It’d probably be very healthy for WoW if there was another MMO that came along and did even greater numbers than WoW, and FF isn’t it.

I think they are less competing with each other now and more competing with everything else. Both games are probably trying to figure out how to pull some Genshin Impact people over lol.

The only statistic that means anything to a company is active PAYING accounts

The only statistic that means anything to players is the total active PLAYING accounts

A significant difference with FFXIV is that you can play a large swath of the game for free with few restrictions which goes a long way towards keeping the active player population high.

Either way, the claims of 27 million for FFXIV and 240 million for Warcraft are meaningless to the current state of either game.

Increase the level of anime waifu booba. Ezclap

I’m kidding, please don’t. There is enough sexual tension in the air you can cut it with a butter knife over in FF.

I would argue that FFXIV is probably decent competition NOW. We don’t really know current WoW numbers, but the last reported subs way back in WoD for 5 million, and it was honestly a fairly linear decline from the start of Cata through then, as long as you accounted for obvious content lulls and xpack/patch releases.

Obviously it didn’t stay a completely linear decline, or we’d have hit 0 around BfA’s launch, and that’s not a realistic thing to have happen, it’s not how numbers work with things like this.

But FFXIV likely hovers around a million subs (based on lodestone scraping during… Shadowbringers?), maybe slightly less tbh.

Is it beating WoW? Probably not.

Is WoW realistically more than a couple million subs after several expansions post-WoD and dropping China?

Also probably not.

Speculation of course, but that’s all we get.

I checked and apparently Genshin had over 63 million people playing in the last 30 days. That is nutty lol.

That is a lot of horny individuals, lol.

Honestly, Genshin is a legitimately good game if you can ignore the Gacha. Obviously it’s predatory and awful, but the game behind it is fun.

I have it on Epic but never did anything with it. I’ll check it out one of these days.

Had.

Also… high percentage of that was (and is) bots.
Also also… likely a worldwide number.

Either way - doesn’t matter. Do all of the servers have a full and vibrant population? (hint: they don’t).

240 million includes trial accounts and people who don’t play, i have at least two dead extra accounts and my sister has a few from when i have tried to get her to play multiple times, the number is disengenuous, if they really wanted an accurate number, they would go with accounts which have been fully paid and active at least once per week for the last 180 days.

Total accounts number is a great way to mask information about total active playerbase.

Though some sites will try their best to get the numbers:

WHERE are you getting that image from? I see nothing from SQUARE saying that.

And you posting an image from Blizzcon, using a number including Free accounts created for the trial means nothing. You cant do that with FFXIV. The only accounts that matter are paying accounts, that means total sales, and total subscribers.

You have to go into Blizzards revenue reports to try to find it now because its so low that Blizzard no longer tries to brag and it has gotten so bad for WoW that the company combined WoW with Cod, Overwatch and freaking CANDY CRUSH to try to hide its revenue.

Mate, you’re trolling at this point. Both companies do the whole useless stat of total players thing. Both include free trials. Square has also combined FF14s numbers with its other games in earnings reports.

Ok, so you are not going to say where you got the screenshot from and you are going to pretend that Square hides numbers like Blizzard does (SUDDENLY) when they clearly do not.

DIRECT information of ONLY FFXIVs revenue, because Square does not in fact combine revenue, which is ILLEGAL in Japan BTW…since you are clueless.

" [Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn]'s increase in subscriptions has seen the MMO section’s revenue grow from $80 million two years ago to $105.8 million in this quarter. [Subscriber numbers have grown this year] driven in part by [World of Warcraft biggest streamer]bringing attention to the game and players looking to prepare for the upcoming [Endwalker expansion]"

This is why you seem to refuse to give your SOURCE of the info you claim is true.

Why is Baldur’s Gate 3 on there? It’s a single player game lol.

It has multiplayer so 4 people can play together. So somehow that makes it count as an MMO.

numbers as in sub numbers.
Maybe actual earnings have to be individual, but that’s not what anyone here is looking at.
