FF14 - Why is it so loved?

Why do people like it so much I wonder.
What makes it better than WoW?
I don’t know anything about it.
I would try it, but I hate anime quite alot, so…

From what I gathered, the combat is rewarding. Mechanics are new. Also graphics and level design.

And chocobos

Final fantasy has a bigger fan base than the original warcraft games. I’m sure it attracts many just from the name recognition and to see classic characters/monsters/summons etc.

I feel like trying to make a statement that “it’s better” is going to start a flame war…

So before that I’ll just say that FF14 is a very pretty game and I like it and wow equally, but for different reasons.

Edit: Also,
…for the impending show.

I put “What makes it better than WoW?” because everyone claims its better than WoW or something like all the time.

The fat black chocobo special thing in China was a riot. They had to eat a bunch of food to get a code.

From what I read, you could eat this as a group but folks were trying to solo it for bragging rights

Weeaboos

And the crowd that’s typically attracted to that kinda thing are a more sensitive lot. They gather together and enjoy the community they all make for each other.

WoW’s been around since before the virtue signaling movement was really a thing. The crowd here are a little older have aged with the game. We’re all a little more grumpier from back when online gaming first started.

I’m not questioning your reasons. Even if you did like it better. It’s a purely subjective statement, and I don’t tend to have opinions about other people’s subjective opinions.

Still, regardless of intent… people get…huffy when statements like that are made on here. Both sides have some very … passionate fanbases.

Edit: Ope! It’s begun!

I wouldn’t say it’s overall better than WoW.

I will say its class design is better, probably owing to not having multiple different specs to deal with.

Also, Viera.

Good abilities relative to WoW (other contemporaries like GW2 have garbage animations), I put FF14 and WoW pretty high
Prettier waifus, and better looking men too (pretty boy faces and no dorito chests)
Better looking armor (but transmog beats glamour for mix n match)

With Final Fantasy 14, you feel a part of the game. The developers actually listen, and to you specifically. You could make a forum post like this, and they would listen, improve, and implement. Also the story… The story in final fantasy makes you actually attached. When a character dies, you don’t say “Ahh who cares” and move on. You are a bit depressed, kinda sad. Look at Varian, he died and people somewhat cared but said whatever and moved on. Because you weren’t attached to the character…

But Lalafells and Chocobos are the best part about it…

Yeah…I mean I’m happy watching all their separate channels. But I miss them together.

I still reference their Deadly Premonition, Until Dawn, and Heavy Rain playthrus

I find the endgame in FFXIV lacking a bit and couldn’t hold my interest long term, but I enjoyed the story quite a lot, especially after you get out of the base game and into the expacs.

I played it for awhile, not the current expansion but the one prior. It was fairly fun, the rotations were really fun and the fanatasy of a scholar being a healer but being able to cross class into having an additional dot, meaning the scholar could have the most dots but simultaneously heal was really enjoyable for me… The lancer’s rotation was REALLY fun. I enjoyed the profession system aswell, it was thought out and took just enough time to make you invested, especially since you could do all of the professions yourself…

What I didn’t like though, the cross classing was fairly limited. The pvp killed it for me I just didn’t like their pvp system, if they implemented a battle ground system it would have been way more fun. Leveling was kind of dull, it was the same dungeon grind after the main story quests and personally I don’t even like questing… Deep dungeons were great on paper and infact were fun for awhile but if you are wanting to level other characters it gets REALLY monotonous and i’d also point out you pretty much NEED other classes just to get their cross class abilities… Like those 3 extra spells were pretty game changing for some classes. I really liked how the maurder earlier on could get those extra cross class abilities before choosing to become a warrior, great on paper, I guess it was every 10 levels you could get one more? so for awhile you could just choose not to become a warrior and have access to a bunch of extra abilities but they did away with this so were putting this on the con list. The macros were a big down side, I love making macros or using my toys on macros and the macro system was horrible… The 2.5 second GCD was fairly annoying but wasn’t as noticeable on someone like the lancer who’s rotation required weaving in spells off the GCD regularly.

There are pros and cons really… I’m partial to wow because I enjoy the casual bgs/pvp system/the transmog system/ the other features like pet battling/ nitros from engineering etc… But at the end of the day i also realize that I’m attached to some of the things in wow also because they are unobtainable and I’ve spent more time playing it.

EDIT: I also don’t like how segmented their world is, like it doesn’t feel connected, it feels like a series of mini instanced worlds which makes flying feel pretty useless. Picture each zone like a zone in outland and you have to walk through a doorway just to get into the adjacent zone, where as in wow you go to outlands and you can just fly seamlessly from each one. Also, I didn’t really enjoy the raiding as much, I like to find unique ways to play and while at first the thought of all the cross class abilities were intriguing, in the end you were ‘bringing the class’ is how it seemed to me… Scholar being the exception because a good scholar dpsd while healing and that was enjoyable, switching pets, tossing dots and managing everything perfectly. But then you look at the other classes, there’s no talents, there was just obvious cross class abilities that were way better. Also, no ‘legal’ dps meters, there’s a big disconnect to for cross class abilities on some of the classes, like the machinist/darknight were specialist? so they were limited to 2 classes but I think some of the other ones had way more access… I don’t know, at the end of the day I like my choices, I like my talent choices, I’ve made new alts on wow with different races intentionalyl to force myself to use a talent i’ve never used and play/explore a new playstyle… Or even professions, the nitros, using nets from tailors, (RIP old profession perks) etc etc, there’s just more ways to actually play wow, imo.
