FF’s story revolves around the characters. The warrior of light (you) aren’t the focus of many of the plotlines. You are involved. But many of the stories are following character development.

The worst part about FF14 is that it’s set in the Final Fantasy garbage universe.
No, I played FF11 for like 7 years, I loved it and the story.
FF14’s story is just bad. I don’t care if it “gets better” - it’s the devs responsibility to make the better story more accessible to new players if even they admit it’s bad, supposedly.
And if that means completely scrapping ARR’s story and replacing it with an online story, so be it.

My apologies for still not understanding the difference between a trial, a normal raid, an alliance raid, and whatever the heck the other one is (If there is one).
Even without my slight, the MSQ takes forever to finish. Not everyone wants to experience that. It used to be worse with the old raids. Thankfully they streamlined all of that into dungeons.
ARR’s* story is bad. FFXIV’s overarching story is actually quite interesting.
FF14’s story is just bad
Millions of players and game critics don’t lie. Especially when the single largest praise of the game from those players is the story.

People are so in denial thinking that FF14 is a flawless mmo and thinking that it’s problems out weighs its success when it doesn’t.
And yet again - if it isn’t accessible to new players, they aren’t going to see it. They are going to see the bad story. That is all I have seen and I won’t push through bad story to see it get better. It’s on the devs.
Also FYI World of Warcraft won far more awards in past years. Far more than say FF14.
It definitely has some serious problems. I would even argue its player base is one of them. They enable Square to keep crap systems around.
The story isn’t amazing by high fantasy standards. It’s no Lord of the Rings or Mistbourne. It’s ok by anime standards. If you don’t like anime or JRPG’s, there’s a good chance you won’t like FF14’s story.
In addition to SXSW Game of the Year, the Final Fantasy online game also won Excellence in Narrative and Excellence in Original Score.

Yeah I like FF14, but the toxic positivity really needs a break. The FF14 community really needs to learn that criticism isn’t a personal attack.

Listen, I am in agreement with you for the most part, but you can’t say FFXIV’s story is bad when you haven’t seen all of it. You can most certainly say ARR’s story is bad and I’d be in agreement with you.
But to say FFXIV’s story is bad would be a ludicrous statement to make if you haven’t seen it to the very end.
