It’s the new game smell: I’m almost at the end of the most recent expansion and it’s been one hell of a trip. I figure eventually, I’m going to hit the point where the grind sets in, but the thing is that FFXIV sets so many goals and milestones in front of your face that you can only do one thing at a time. Do I want to level another job, get in on crafting something, farm at the diadem for mats, hunt down marks, grind away at a weapon, do trials, etc. Sure, I’m grinding, but it’s like the most fun job ever: I find a goal I want to achieve, not a goal I have to achieve.
The problem with WOW is that there are two endgame goals: PVP and PVE. I wouldn’t have been so bitter about WOW if I didn’t have to spend 75% of my time grinding renown, Korthia, the Maw, and Mythic dungeons just so I could spend that last 25% on raiding.
It’s days like this that I wish I was a casual so I had no idea what was wrong.
Sure. Not gonna lie and say you’re wrong. The thing is, FFXIV is VERY casual friendly. It was made to be that way, a solo type of MMO where you really only group up for dungeons. FFXIV is fun, but it’s so different from WoW that I feel like a lot of people fail to acknowledge that it’s a VERY different game.
WoW gives me that raiding/dungeon competitiveness I enjoy. Their PvP is also far better than FFXIV.
FFXIV gives me chill, casual gameplay that I can enjoy without feeling like I need to be max to be considered a ‘real’ character (does that make sense?)
I love both games, but the thing with FFXIV is that it IS still an MMO and it does still have flaws.
I’ve not read the entire thread, but pretty sure many of the responses are from people who play both…increasingly confused why others are confused by this concept. Lol
You’d be correct. They can’t seem to understand that we still love WoW and want it to be fun and successful again. WoW isn’t my husband, I’m not cheating on them with a catboy.
