Yea those that berate anyone that dares to say anything against wow are wonderful people.
I’d like to chime into this as well. I actively play FF14 but I, too, am defending WoW because it’s simply a great game, and the best of the genre. The amazon MMO look interesting, I don’t think Ill try it but interesting. AoC, looks cool but honestly it looks like WoW with a guildwars hot bar to me… I also think they’re overloading themselves with too many features/ideas that end up wont working right…, and continue to milk the ideas for more funding… but we’ll see. AoC also has that sort of medieval ‘blah’ theme that so many failing mmos had… The riot game though; although I know nothing about it… they make great games… every time… Valorant is one of my favorite games of all time, so I know I will be checking it out no matter what. – I just wanted to say all of these things to show you that being a WoW defender has nothing to do with checking out or playing new games. When a WoW killer comes a long I’ll acknowledge it for sure! I don’t think it’ll happen though 
People that actually like ff more than wow aren’t here on the wow forums talking about it.

If there was an article that made such a claim and I had been made aware of it, I would have shared the same amount of skepticism as I am right now. Neither company publishes their numbers, so we can’t say for certain whether or not one is above the other.
I also never tried to say FFXIV had more, only that if WoW has more subscribers, it’s probably only by a thin margin considering the amount of visibility and player increase FFXIV has been getting.
Here’s some irrefutable evidence: I, and many others, are noticing less and less people playing WoW. Some guilds are now husks of what they used to be, and this is a continuing trend as we get further into the expansion. Meanwhile, as this noticeable dip occurs, I, and many others, are similarly noticing a rapid increase in newer players in FFXIV. All the while, some of the top WoW streamers have now adopted FFXIV into their streaming schedules, if not taken it up as a full-time game. Doubly so, it certainly would appear to be that they’re greatly enjoying their time with it.
Am I saying that WoW has less subscribers? No. I don’t have any evidence to make such an objective claim. I can, however, figure what the trend is through firsthand experience, as well as firsthand claims from countless other players and criticisms being unleashed from the community.
So even if WoW has a higher sub count right now, the current trend should indicate to you that there’s a greater possibility of it not lasting long. There’s also a chance that this supposed higher sub count only exists because of people resubscribing for the most recent patch. Previous patches would implicate these subscriptions being very temporary, especially with one as lukewarm as 9.1.
It’s even harder for these people to comprehend how others may like both games.

I played FF14. Grinded through ARR and got to HW. Burnt out before I ever started it.
Why do I have to play a game for so long before I can actually enjoy it?

I only called you the first. Funny you seem to have angered a lot of people! You though, have called me so much more, for what? I still like this game. I even outlined in one post my problems with SL and explained that they were not fun ending for me like BfA was.
Any time I’ve quit, and there’s been a lot, I have never pulled what you have here for the past few months. I never told any of my friends who were still playing and having fun that they were shills or white knights. I left, no quit post necessary.
Your reaction has been terrible, and you not seeing it means it will happen again in another community when you face similar displeasure.
Apparently, you don’t know that it is illegally to like more than 1 MMO.

I’m pretty much done with Wow, the only reason I play it is because there isn’t a good alternative. I’m excited about the Riot game and if i can get 4-5 friends to switch and the game isn’t garbage I’m gone. My reasons are listed below.
- I don’t like the vision the Devs have for the game, they refuse to budge an inch and instead double down on crappy systems.
I get it, its their game and they can do whatever they want but they are running a business, they have been warned repeatedly about these thing in PTR/Beta tests. Yet their hubris is at another level. They need to get over people telling them their ideas are bad. Instead of waiting a year and saying “We are listening to you” only to not really listen but to placate us.

They have butchered the story. The story is now so bad I no longer care nor feel a connection to the game.

Mistaking difficulty for fun. Not everything has to be difficult to be fun. Sure you can throw some challenges in along the way but things should ramp up and it should be sprinkled in. When everything is difficult it just makes it a slog and that also makes me not want to play.
All I need is for a game to scratch that 5 man PVE itch. I hope riot can do it because I feel Ion, the Devs and the Writers dont care for their customers anymore.
