I think after shadowlands a lot of people don’t want to buy the game right away because they’re frustrated. But if they are allowed to play for a week, they may decide that this addon is worth the money, I personally liked dragonflight. In general, during the pandemic, Blizzard had a great chance to show itself, to do something cool to keep people, but they gave the 3rd and Season 4 of Shadowlands.
If I stopped playing because shadowlands pushed me away from playing. Then after playing a free week in dragonflight, I would back in game
They did a free weekend. My friend who hasn’t played since 8.3 logged in, did one attempt on the Sha of Anger, sat around in town on his spider mount for a few hours, logged out and didn’t log in again.
I was eligible for the “play a dracthyr for a month free” promotion, but had no interest. It felt like they realized at that point that there was going to be a major shortage of healers, and the dracthyr promotion was intended to increase the number of healers as much as anything.
I pre-ordered wod. That was when they first introduced the bundle and moved away from having to upgrade each expansion separately.
I bought Legion the first week. In BfA I did Legion-capped PvP and joked I would buy the expansion when it dropped to $7. Eventually I did buy two copies on sale for $20 and upgraded 2 accounts. Come Shadowlands I joked that if they gave it to me for free, I might play it. They did and I did.
I’m glad you are enjoying yourself. I don’t see people like me having fun. I doubt I would use a free 7 day trial.
Folks tried the free weekend the smart ones quit the dumb ones like myself bought expan realized it was more diluted than SL and bailed after a week.
Props to blizz for unrestricted forum access probably for the folks over seas that lost wow.
The people who are targeted by these free trial promotions have subscribed in the recent past, and probably still have the game installed. For instance, the free 30 day play-a-dracthyr promotion required a character at level 60. The free Shadowlands promotion required that a player not have purchased Shadowlands, but had to have purchased a game license in the past.
Problem with this idea is that we would have to listen to people like murdercarpet complain about how blizzard is only doing it because the game is dead to confirm their own delusions. GD would be on fire if this were even once a month.
People are tired of “playing the timegate.” They can’t play at their own pace, there’s always gotta be some FOMO for a weekly shtick. Conversely you get punished for playing in bursts and skipping a week here and there.
It’s turned the game into this worthless meaningless chores mentality. People have caught on and know when to call it quits.
i think that’s partially true…the main issue imo is that the work you put into the game often doesn’t feel like it’s worth it at the end of the day.
i think a lot of it has to do with the systems/rewards (both part of the same team iirc) just feeling horrible for years. for example, i think recolored mounts were great for a while, especially when they were a newer concept…but there’s too much bloat with that stuff…and all it does is make it more daunting for a new or returning player to get into the game again.
innovating the rewards system would be a good way to make your time feel worth it i think. or at least a step in the right direction.
playing the patch was bound to get old at some point…not really sure how to solve that, but then again, that’s the developer’s job to figure out.
Aint that the truth. Some days it seems like blizzard could donate $1b to fund cancer research and people would still complain its some desperate gambit to save their dying company. I dont even know why these people are still on this forum other than some campaign of vengeance.
