Loving both specs so far and would like the communities opinion. I do a lot of damage for m+ packs as feral, but Boomkin Utility is just amazing. Decisions, Decisions.
Also play resto/bear so gearing isnt a super helpful way to choose.

I play feral because I enjoy feral, and I dislike balance. Simple as that.
I didnât base my choice on utility, damage, or a strangers opinion.
This is a game. Play what you enjoy.
Looking for invites based on current meta?
Play Resto.
My guild would accept me as either, and I loved both. Just not sure what to pick because I donât want to gear both specs.
I love utility and ranged of balance and I love the damage and speed of feral (no blood talons though, screw that). Just wondering what other people find fun, and if they had any input.
I generally play resto/guardian in case I want a fast invite.
I like both. If you enjoy Feral, do it. Iâm with you on BT though⌠Never liked it. I like the fast spammy Feral with Sabertooth, SotF, and MoC.
If youâre gonna tank, stick with Feral as a back up.
If you wanna boomy, stick with resto as your backup (or vice versa.)
The stats between those 2 are fairly close to each others so if you do tank you wonât get terrible gear and if you heal/dps as boomy the same will happen.
Really in the end it comes down to whatever you enjoy the most. All 4 specs for once are viable for M+ and all pretty much bring the same exact utility (minus Feral but what it lacks in utility it surpasses greatly in entertainment.)
If Balance acted as it were in WotLK, Iâd literally never touch Feral.
I absolutely adore Feral more than Balance now.
Again, it IS up to you. You WILL get denied (Rogues, DH, literally any other Melee DPS bring more utility than you). Work on your M+ score, show youâre capable and the invite WILL roll in.
for below +8 feral is fine. for anything above +8 boomkin utility canât be beat.
Sorry balanced , but that is a really low threshold and we donât have reaping any more. Talks about utility below a 15 are more a view into the posterâs skill level than reality. If you are in a group that struggles so hard it needs utility below a 12 or 13, your team probably needs gear or you need to find a new team. Yes, utility comes into play but the level at which it does is overstated 90% of the time.
Routinely ran +19 and +20 keys with a feral in season 2. Could we have gone higher with a better set up? Sure. Does it really matter? Nope.
Play what you want to play. Feral is fine for the vast majority. If youâre looking to make your way into the top 0.1% who run +20 and above⌠then youâre gunna want to look into the meta. (ie go restoâŚ)
One final thing to add though⌠Community perception is an ever present frustration. And for awhile now, the community labors under the delusion that feral is a non-viable spec. Of course theyâre completely wrong, but that is its perception. So if youâre planning on doing the majority of your keys via pugs⌠then you will have an uphill battle as feral. Donât be surprised if someone asks your spec, then declines you. Ya it sucks, but such is pug life.
My recommendation is to do keys with friends. Way more enjoyable.
I have a selfish desire in saying go Feral if you are good at it. Because Iâve been searching for a stable feral main for my guildâs raid group and mythic + groups. They bring a lot of utility to the groups in both situations, but it takes someone willing to work towards those strengths.
In Mythic + and Raids a feral throwing their free heals on the tank or topping up the DPS letâs the healer or healers contribute more to DPSâing than just straight healing.
While I believe that Feral lacks a bit in utility for Mythic + overall, they are great assets for raids and contribute more than balance there. But being a melee spot you will have more competition than a Boomkin would have to fight to get a spot in groups.
Honestly both specs bring about the same utility to the table. And both can be played in high keys. So I wouldnât say âanything below key #â because that just isnât true. There are Ferals successfully doing 15-18+ level keys right now.
Just not correct.
Iâm slowly getting there D:
Feral absolutely slaughters the dps in mythic + now.
Arguably id say feral brings more utility, stampeding roar is great for movement. and literally free regrowths every 5 seconds. Thats alot of pressure off the healer. Plus on-call stuns with maim, insta cast roots.
Feral can still bring the utility balance does, except for innervate and solar beam.
I will also chime into this and say that a lot of the tanks iâve been running with lately do not want treants. Some tanks find it really irritating & thereâs not a lot of pulls anymore that threaten tanks that much. So while treants used to make Moonkin very valuable in previous seasons, iâm just not seeing it anymore. If anything, Moonkin is brought more because of itâs massive amount of frontloaded damage via CDs and because it is ranged.
This highly depends on the week, the fact that boomkin has it as an option and feral doesnât is still a huge loss for feral when comparing both specs, you are probably gonna see treants show up again this week, allowing a tank to sit in melee doing damage with high stacks of necrotic while the treants tank instead of having to kite is pretty big.
This is nearly useless in M+ and is not unique to Feral as Guardians have the same thing.
Feral does great damage, but it brings nothing in terms of utility that is unique to Feral.
Being ranged in m+ is irrelevant. Having someone be âirritatedâ over our utility doesnât make it not utility. If I find shroud âirritatingâ, it doesnât stop being shroud.
Treants are often seen as an insurance policy by most people, specifically to deal with skittish/necrotic, and though thatâs true (and certainly isnât always needed), people tend to overlook the fact that treants can also enable larger pulls.
Being completely honest one of the things that Feral does bring over balance that might be overlooked here is simply their low cooldown kick. Of course they compete with other melee with similar kicks, but in a vacuum with balance specifically, thatâs something massive that balance lacks. Kicks are integral to high keys and part of the reason m+ comps tend to lean more melee heavy.
True. But balanceâs aoe silence functions as multiple kicks at once.
This is the only thing and a minor one considering the tank + other dps will likely have one as well.
I feel like a broken record when I say this, but here it goes again:
Feral brings nothing unique to a M+ group. This doesnât mean theyâre bad, but thereâs no specific reason to bring a Feral Druid over itâs competitor specs. Again, Feral does more than fine in M+ at higher levels, but that doesnât mean other specs donât do more.
In most cases thereâs probably a small handful of pulls between all of the dungeons where this is solid. On a 45 second CD it doesnât really hold much power compared to having 2-3 15 second kicks/cc.
