It’s possible to get Expertise capped in Phase 1, but you won’t like it.
Need 92 to cap.
Earthwarden - 27
Shapeshifter’s Signet - 20
Shattrath Leggings - 22
Flesh Handler’s Gauntlets - 18
That leaves 5 Expertise you need to find elsewhere. There’s Mugger’s Belt (12 expertise) out of Dire Maul North or Circlet of Restless Dreams (14 expertise) off Emeriss.
It’s easier as DPS, you can use Wildcaller (20 expertise) instead of Earthwarden to get to 80 expertise. Then you just need Mugger’s Belt to reach exactly 92.
Whether it’s worth the loss in tank/dps stats I don’t know.
It’s not really understood why, but the feral tanks in my guild say they’re noticing it’s much more difficult to maintain aggro in raids since pre-patch.
You won’t find much in TBCC either, that stat is few and far between, nor can we gem for it. Just one of the fun things ALL Tanks have to deal with, but Warriors and Druids especially.
The last time I did Shattered Halls on a Feral Druid, I told the DPS to kill adds on Kargath instead of trying to burn him down. My threat gen was never so good that we could comfortably ignore adds during a boss fight.
I have no idea where this concept comes from that Feral Druids generate super high threat in Burning Crusade. That was never my experience playing in 2007.
They generate decent threat in raids because of raid buffs and debuffs.
I’ve Feral tanked here and there during OG, BC, and WotLK. WotLK was a different story entirely and I never really raided much on Feral during OG.
When your Heal/DPS are missing Salvation, it’s extremely noticeable as a Feral tank. Swipe may work to keep adds on you against standard Heals, but high amounts of AoE Healing and AoE DPS can rip threat off of you more often than not.
People also overestimate how much armor Feral Druids have relative to other tanks. Yeah, they’re really good when you don’t have Inspiration. But, when you do, and you stack the Armor Pot, their Armor advantage is actually really small compared to Warriors and Paladins.
Then there’s Dodge tanking, which really wasn’t a thing in 2007. That was a private server thing. I have yet to see any evidence that this actually performs well.
So, this notion that Feral is a god MT in Burning Crusade, I have no idea where people got this idea.
This is a misconception that too many people have at this point.
I’ve been a Feral tank since Vanilla all the way through to Siege of Orgrimmar at the end of MoP. I only stopped playing my Druid when my guild changed to Horde because I refused to turn Fasc into a disgusting Tauren/Troll.
…any Tank.
Uhhhh T5 puts Paladins/Warriors around 18k Armor, T4 puts Druids easily over 28k.
26,204 Armor is the magic number to cap with Ironshield+Inspiration, and getting another 8k Armor just isn’t in the cards for the Plate wearers. Our Armor advantage is more than sufficient combined with our insane Stamina scaling, even once we hit and maintain the cap.
It was absolutely a thing, it just caused threat issues if you were too “lucky” and the boss had no magical or unavoidable damage sources. You’re silly if you’re not maintaining a really high Agility set for Reliquary of Souls at a minimum, and you can even create a fantastic one for Brutallus to offset the Sunwell Radiance and also keep above the minimum EH you need to eat Meteor Slash and Stomp+Melee combos.
Because we are and you seem to be operating under some rather odd misconceptions.

This is a bigger difference than I recall being the case. This gives Feral Druids around 16% (slightly more) more Damage Mitigation versus Warrior’s 10% and Paladin’s 6%. Accounting for Blocks and Crushing Blows but ignoring Spell Reflect, all 3 tanks (probably) take comparable amounts of damage overall.

You don’t need a Feral Druid to tank Reliquary of Souls.
Evasion tanking today is seen as having over 100% Dodge. Back in 2007, it just meant having a lot of Dodge/Agility on your gear.
EIther way, I don’t know why anyone would try Dodge tanking in SWP.
And Either way, Feral Druids don’t generate as much TPS as people suggest they do.
