This post is to bring awareness to what seems like a bug because I doubt that Blizzard intended these 2 spells to work as they do. When casting feral spirits or Earth elemental to attack a player in pvp or even a mob in the world on my enhancement shaman they attack for a few seconds but if I do not follow up with another attack they stop attacking and run to my side. Now, looking at Windwalker monk’s talent Storm Earth and Fire, when they cast their images onto an enemy they stick and also they have the option to click the button again so the images can swap targets. Now at first it may seemingly be nothing but when it comes to things like arena or trying to solo a boss it makes a huge difference because in arena when a healer goes and runs to get a drink when u press the wolves to attack and interrupt him behind pillar they run at him at first but the moment u attack someone else more they lose aggro and there is no way to make them focus the healer to give u the edge at stopping them from drinking. PvE wise if your trying to stop a high priority mob from killing you with earth ele whilst focusing on adds it will not work because earth ele in itself is like a mini tank which can hold agro for you but the moment you send it to attack one mob and u try to focus on another group it will start attacking the new group your attacking. Blizzard its a minute change that makes big difference if u can make it so these spells act as storm earth and fire do where they focus targets instead of running to anything you touch it give shamans an edge which I feel is what the talent should have been doing in the first place. Thank you.
This is an intended action. Since we have no actual control over these npc creatures, they are naturally set to ‘passive’, and if we are not currently engaged with the target, they will automatically return to a passive state once the standard 5 sec of combat after not initiating a hostile action toward the target.
I agree with Tozekos in I think it is intended. Speaking from a pure ele standpoint I actually like it because I use his innate ability to target my target to gather mobs, esp in m+10. What I really like is to summon him; mount up and target myself; and ride through vast areas of mobs collecting them all. I can then target a straggler or caster and he pulls all the extras to that target.
Though ele does have access to Primal Elementalist which gives more control.
Though I can see your frustration in an arena setting trying to mongo A and using your wolves/EE to prevent B from drinking so you can mongo on.
i haven’t noticed it before, but would making a button for your attacks by adding /petattack with your skill help this? i use it on my hunter, lock, and dk so switching is automatic… not to mention if you get sapped/stunned and your pet can still attack.
Your last paragraph is legit what happened to me one time in arena. PvE wise there have been times where I could not form a group quick enough to kill a strong mob and I just needed my Earth Elemental to stay put and keep agro on the boss as I took care of adds but the stupid earth ele aggros the adds that im now focusing and gets destroyed by the amount of mobs attacking it all at once. I’m just saying that if these abilities acted more like a warlock’s voidwalker or a monk’s Earth win and fire clone. It wouldn’t hurt anyone in the shaman community maybe even be more helpful for different scenarios.
