Feral Question

Hey guys, I’m starting WoW again, I actually had the expansion pre order long ago but never started playing till now. IS feral druid still the same is it back then when it was underwhelming and no one wanted us or did they finally do something after all this time, like bringing its enjoyable bleed spec back or buffing any bleeds or something? wats the 101?

, Regards

Feral is a better position than it was in BfA and Legion due to a better damage profile.

Plays still very similarly to BfA though (few tweaks to abilities)

With covenant choices adding in abilities that work specific ways, and multiple legendary items you can specifically target and farm, you are able to play a more bleed oriented style if that’s what you’d like.

We’re still in the shadow of our Boomkin brethren, but Feral is fun and doing well nonetheless

Our AOE is very bleed heavy. Our ST is very bite heavy. Honestly, it still feels good, and bleeds are still strong enough that our best legendaries tend to revolve around doing more of it.
Feral actually does very good damage, and has a reasonable amount of utility in dungeons.

As for people wanting feral.

I’m not sure there has ever been a point in the history of the game when people wanted kitties, no matter how good they’ve been.

We’ve always been a low-played side show of a spec.

People still don’t understand that we’re in a good place, and they always seem a little surprised when I kick the crap out of them on DPS. Especially the people who are playing the “meta” specs.

Yeah, this for sure. Well i will look into how to make it feel like a bleed style because im sure we all hate bite as a veterans, could less got aoe, never should have been the focus, simply buffing bleeds and forgetting bite was enough to give us hope and that last part true. Used to put meta spec to shame on ST at times but no one would give u a chance naturally. Ill stick wit it. Thanks again. Anyone else feel free to keep this alive.

This is how it was for me in BfA. Feral was considered the bottom of the barrel (yay community stigma). Always made me feel good when people would send friend requests after a dungeon run and/or say things along the lines of “oh wow I didn’t know Ferals were capable of doing this”

As far as your bleed style play. It’s currently leading the DPS for Ferals in single target thanks to Draught of the Deep Focus legendary and Circle of Life and Death being a good runner up. Give them a gander

We can’t afford to lose our AOE. M+ is too much of the game right now.
Also, I never want to go back to WoD where my ST was god tier, and I felt like a liability on things like the trains fight.
I’d rather lose a little ST dominance and feel good in M+ (like right now), than be an ST monster that sucks at everything other than that and 2 target cleave.

(And we’re still ST monsters. Take a look at feral on things like Shriek or Sludge. I also tend to crap on everyone on Artificer as long as I’m not a seed boi.)

I’m of the opinion that every spec should feel great in ST / AoE.

I think feral is just missing a little “oooomph” in AoE / cleave right now. A single added spell or cleave with FB could probably fix it but…more likely we will just stay disappointed.

Just cant see myself taking primal wraith for some added aoe that never was our strongsuit in the first place, in place of losing a good on-demand talent. I understand not wanting to lose it because everyone wants aoe present and its a big part of the gameplay. I mean, is the numbers really worth it/doing anything in terms of aoe to justify taking PW?

Definitely so lol

Will give it a try.

Few factors play into this

  1. AoE target cap - most abilities are limited in how many mobs they’ll damage (5-8 being the common numbers). Primal Wrath is uncapped. It’ll hit 20 mobs if there’s that many around.

  2. Rip is our strongest ability in terms of damage per energy. Now imagine applying that, to multiple mobs, all at once.

  3. it’s got damage that’s front loaded as well. So it’s like a mini swipe applying rip

  4. Bloodtalons talent also applies to PW

The difference between Brutal Slash and Swipe isn’t actually super big.

And PW means that feral, unlike almost any other melee, is not AOE capped. And that’s pretty significant at this point. Our only capped aoe is Swipe. Having PW, Thrash, and Sunfire to AOE the world with puts us well above most other melee once the cap kicks in.

And I’m not completely sure what you mean losing an “on-demand” talent means. The idea that there are significant choices to be made with talents has always been largely a lie. Right now you tend to get 2 options per row depending on the situation, and you pick the appropriate one.

Also, we had really good AOE in the latter half of Legion.

If memory serves, the world first Nefarian kill in Blackwing Descent stacked feral druids.

lol what?

What a complete garbage statement.
Ferals have always been high in demand.

They were bottom rung for 1 expansion out of 8 plus vanila, and youre going to sit here and pretend they were suddenly the black sheep of wow?

Cut the crap.

Ferals were GODS! Our utility and damage from BC all the way through WLK, CATA, and especially MoP was unparalleled. The forums were filled with guilds searching specifically for ferals. Not only were we high in demand, but there were certain fights that were damn near impossible without us. I cant speak for WOD, Legion personally, as I did not play those packs, but it didnt take much digging to find out they were GODS then to.

What on earth are you going on about?

Absolute garbage statement.
Dont listen to him.

You didn’t play the same game I did then.

I’ve seen points when ferals weren’t treated as trash, but I’ve never seen a point (outside of when Feral also meant bears) that people wanted feral.

And we’ve always been super rare.

What on earth are you going on about?

I’m not sure about people wanting Feral druids, but the turn against Ferals really hit in BRF when M Blackhand was heavily slanted towards more balance druids being better.

Druids are also in the position of being a hybrid class with a ranged and melee spec, where the ranged is usually better tuned/balanced, easier to play, and more sought after. It’s no wonder there are few Ferals.

Something tells me youre absolutely correct.

Lol. That’s quite the distinction . You’re just going to sweep 8 years of Feral’s distinct niche under the rug like that?

K…

Let’s pretend that every guild didn’t actively seek out a feral for their unique ability to offtank as a dps role. For the sake of your argument, let’s pretend that ferals were only sought after for their dps. They would need to meet a certain criteria, I suppose? Like… I don’t know… highest single target damage in the game? No? Don’t remember that? Hmmm. Yeah… you and I most certainly were not playing the same game.

I suppose the problem with ferals is that we’re often a lone wolf. Guilds only needed one. So while the demand was most certainly there (GM/scouts would try and poach me multiple times a week), the number of positions was limited.

Sorry you didn’t get to experience that.

I can remember Feral being a top melee DPS maybe twice since BC. End of WOTLK and at some point in Legion (I didn’t play, Legion was a terrible expansion). We’ve been an upper end melee DPS more often than not.

Respect everyone’s opinion and leave constructive criticism only please if you need to debate. All you had to do was state your argument and leave it at that. There was no reason for you to get out of pocket with this. All due respect.

Its not an “opinion”. What you and the poster above are saying is 100% incorrect. Youre spreading misinformation about ferals, and I dont care if your feelings got hurt because I corrected you.

You want “constructive criticism”?
Play another FOTM class, this one is not for you.
Last thing this class needs is more negative stigma perpetuated by you.
