I love this thread!
Meanwhile, in BC, they gave us Everbloom Idol lol
To be fair, we also got Idol of Feral Shadows and Idol of Ursoc and a number of other… umm… yeah…
You’ve been misinformed. Previously (or currently as of 6/27) powershifting was more powerful than it’s ever been, but it required more macros and the use of dozens of elixirs every fight. This fix they’re implementing actually weakens it, but makes it much more accessible and feel more natural.
Now it’s just “/cast !catform”. That’s literally the powershift macro now, one line, just like it was in vanilla and early TBC.
Power shifting was never “natural.” If I want to play a cat, I stay a cat.
I hear you. Shifting forms on a druid is a bug
You’re awfully beefy looking for a troll…
“I have an -Cat- druid and i dislike powershifting, so i refuse to use it!”
“I have a Arms Warrior and I dislike Mortal Strike, and I refuse to use it!”
The 2 brothers.
(Im not going to even go in the fact that you are a -Feral- druid, and not a Cat or Bear - thats Retail nonsense.)
Spamming shadowbolt was never “natural”. If I want to play a destruction lock, I cast searing pain. /s
In all seriousness if you stay in cat 100% of the time and never utilize the incredible range of your other forms mid-combat because the idea of spending even 1 millisecond in caster form scares you, you’re kinda missing the point of druid.
I’ll pop out if needed. Regularly popping out to get that extra tick is dumb. Sorry… it just is.
Dunno, if they upped our resource regen rate, and gave us more to do than just spam shred -> rip, then I’d agree. In other words, if WotLK feral was here, I’d be happy. But as it is right now? Feral would be soooo boring without powershifting.
If you’re gonna pop out of form for utility, then it makes a lot more sense, and is a lot more fun. Popping out of form to spam one button while drooliklng over a damage meter is lame.
I am really not sure what your beef is with cats, do they beat you dps all the time or something? Fact of the matter is currently with powershifting cat dps has one of the most complicated dps rotations out of all dps in tbc. Not that it is very complicated but others are even easier.
You’re in fine company:
Using cat in short bursts is awesome. Shifting out of feral to Innervate or Rebirth is cool, even if you immediately go feral again. Where it starts to cross the line is being a bear, going cat to hit a button, then going back to bear to benefit from the cat button. Doing feral charge bear, shifting and doing feral charge cat is not what we want. Anything that starts to feel like the old powershifting (changing just to generate mana) is what we’re trying to avoid.
If it helps, think about it this way: shifting once in a small window is cool. Shifting several times in a small window is less cool.

My beef is with stupid, gimmicky gameplay. I also never understood why people choose to play a hybrid class and ONLY focus on one aspect. If you wanna play an energy-using melee that hits fast, play a rogue.
Eh, I wasn’t talking about the numbers. I was talking about the feel of the rotation. Without powershifting the kitty rotation, to me at least, would feel incredibly boring waiting seconds at a time for each shred. With powershifting, I have mana management, GCD management, tick management, and often… too many combo points to utilize them all.
Obviously if I could just have them give us WotLK feral right now, I’d say sure. But that really would be a massive change from what TBC feral was. I’ll play WotLK feral when it comes out with wrath classic. For now I’d rather have powershifting, than not. Also with the macro someone posted above… you don’t even notice the form change. Think of it like a retail feral druids tiger’s lust energy gain. Makes the whole thing feel much more fast paced and alive.
I have a druid and it feels fine to me.
Then again, I also play ret and I’m fine with that, too.
Then this is just a preference thing. To me waiting 2-3 seconds to hit shred, then waiting another 2-3 seconds to hit it again feels incredibly slow.
because the group mentality is you are a DPS, a Healer, a Tank, Hybrids do not fit into this paradigm.
When sorting raids, people don’t want jack of all trades being mediocre at everything until the “one-time” you save the day jumping and replacing a healer that died, or stepping in for the tank that died.
and to be honest, power shifting feral is actually incredibly fun. Manage your mana resource, to manage your focus resource, to knock out some decent damage. The “intended” game play of feral, no shifting, is incredibly boring and you’re sitting on a full MP…for what?
I’m always watching the party/raid health (especially as ret.) If bubbles, cleanses, heals or stuns are needed, I’m there.
Feralbis admittedly harder tonplay that way, but if I have mana, it’s saved for “oh crap” moments.
